PPO SUNSETS IN MAKILING FEATURES EXCERPTS FROM WELL-

LOVED OPERAS IN MAY

Bring your picnic baskets and enjoy the sunset as the Philippine Philharmonic
Orchestra (PPO) performs excerpts from well-loved operas at the PPO
Sunsets in Makiling on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 5:00 PM at the National Arts
Center in Mt, Makiling, Los Baos, Laguna.

Conducted by the PPO Associate Conductor Hermiigildo Ranera, the PPO will
bring opera closer to its audience as it features young talented up and
coming opera singers such as soprano Nerissa De Juan, mezzo soprano Ma.
Krissan Manikan, tenor Lorenz Lapresca and baritones Belford Mabunga and
Joseleo Logdat. The singers were featured in CCPs Discover Opera! An
Evening of Arias and Ensemble held at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino on
April 20, 2017.

Young soprano Nerissa De Juan is taking up her Bachelor of Music degree in


Voice at the New Era University under Prof. Ligaya Quinitio. A new face in the
field of opera, she was one of those who essayed the role of Maria Clara in
Felipe Padilla de Leons opera Noli Me Tangere at the CCP on January 2017.
Ma. Krissan Manikan finished her Ma. Krissan V. Manikan finshed her vocal
studies at the Conservatoire rayonnement rgional de Paris under soprano
Florence Guignolet under a French government scholarship. She has given
performances in the Philippines and abroad. Lorenz Lapresca Lorenz is
currently taking up Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at St.
Scholastica's College Manila under the tutelage of Pablo Molina and Camille
Lopez-Molina. Belford King Mabunga finished his Bachelor of Music Degree in
Vocal Performance at the Philippine Women's University College of Music.
Joseleo Logdat finished his is Bachelor of Music degree and his Master of
Music degree in Voice at the Sta. Isabel College of Music and at the Elizabeth
University of Music in Hiroshima, Japan. He is active as a solo performer and
teacher.

Baritone Andrew Fernando has performed as principal artist with Opera
Pacific, San Francisco Opera Merola, Eugene Opera, Opera San Jose, New
York City Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, First Act Opera of England, LA
Opera/Hong Kong Arts Festival, Walt Disney Hall, Virginia Arts Festival,
Singapore Lyric Opera, Duluth Festival Opera and Cultural Center of the
Philippines to name a few. Andrew is also active as a stage and concert
director.

This well attended annual concert held on the first Saturday of May for the
past three years brings the PPO to the audiences in Los Baos and other
cities and towns outside Laguna who have no opportunity to listen to a live
orchestra. The concert is free of charge and open to the public.

The programme includes overtures, pieces, arias and ensembles to be


performed by the singers. These include Libiamo from Verdis La Traviata,
Habanera from Bizets Carmen, Kay Tamis ng Buhay from Padilla de Leons
Noli Me Tangere, ______________ .
