Leadership is a common word now-a-days but it is an important one which started from decades
ago. According to many scholars, some leaders are born or some leaders achieve the quality by
hard work. Whatever is the source of the leadership, an effective leader is very important in
every aspect. While leadership terms are useful in every aspect of our life, but it is even more
strong word in professional sector. The employees require leaders to show them course, spur and
rouse them to perform getting it done and control or debilitate any activities which might harm to
the business in general; while the clients and customers require authority to motivate trust and
trust in the business' items or administrations. Administration is likewise essential in
guaranteeing the smooth running of the association in general to guarantee that workers are
fiscally remunerated in a reasonable and convenient way and that stockholders are happy with
their venture. The work environment is a group situation and no place else is administration so
vital.

Executive leadership is the capability of a person to change the driving force and culture of an
organization towards its desired success through his unique leadership nature by managing and
inspiring the individuals (Executive leadership, 2016). Progressions in innovation are making
open doors for new plans of action that can drastically move the aggressive scene of whole
businesses. Globalization and moving geopolitical powers are for all time changing the limits of
interorganizational coordinated effort and rivalry. Also, a heap of monetary, natural, and moral
emergencies is straightforwardly testing the part of enterprises in the public eye, and highlighting
the relationship among business, government and social areas. Because of these continuous
hierarchical changes, effective executive leadership is required like never before. Executive
leadership is a standout amongst the most essential indicators of whether gatherings and
associations can effectively adjust to and perform in element conditions. Capacity and position
includes obligation: how one decides, speaks with others, cultivates a convincing vision,
oversees operations and methodology, motivates excellent execution, urges individuals to
achieve their greatest potential, and runs an organization at its full limit. There has never been a
more vital time to exemplify the attributes of authority and every one of the basics that typify it.
Regarding this, from CEO to a bottom worker in an organization, an effective leader is must

culture and driving change but most of the case it has to be learned and conquered to achieve that
quality to make the change in organization. One perception can easily guide to the requirement
of executive leadership: an effective leader can change the fortune and make success of a bad
business plan and a bad leader even make the company failure from its good business plan.
(Oracle, 2012). Thus, it is very much obligatory to have an effective leader to maintain a great
run for an organization in achieving the success.

2. Literature Review
Leadership involves in engaging with the way towards affecting individuals, getting involved
with the small activities that affects a few and involvement in significant activities that affects
many individuals. Jooste (2004) demonstrates that pioneers utilize the basics of expert power and
impact to lead devotees to their objectives. These basics have prompt the progressions from the
past to the present. From the past scholars has established many theories starting from traits and
behaviors (Fiesherman, 1953), contingency theory (Fiedler, 1967), situational theory (Hersey and
Blanchard, 1977) and all about to getting know about the effective leadership style of
individuals. For the effectivity of any leader, their personal behavior has a great impact on that.
Earlier research demonstrated that effective leadership entails with the individuals and task
related.

2.1 Theories and Traits of Leadership

First theory of leadership evolves by Herbert Spencer around mid-19th century named Great
Man Theory in which Spencer describes that leaders are destined by born. They born with
gifted leading capability and their leadership rises when the appropriate situation arises
(Leadership Theories, 2015).

The next theory given by M. Stogdill is Trait Theory which similar to Great Man theory but
with some more specific qualities named intelligence, sense of responsibility, creativity etc. The
trait theory concentrated on investigating mental, physical and social trademark with a specific
end goal to acquire comprehension of what is the trademark or the mix of qualities that are
normal among leaders (Leadership Theories, 2015).
6

The Behavioral Theory by University of Michigan and Ohio State University researchers
presented that leaders are acquainted with their activity, what they do but not with what they are
born with. In this theory, leaders are identified and separated from non-leaders by their action of
works (Leadership Theories, 2015).

Contingency theory of leadership emerges around in 1960s with the thought of that there is no
specific leadership style and leadership quality arises based on the situation. When there is an
extreme situation, leaders are performing maximum but when the situation comes at normal, then
their leadership elements also become normal condition (Leadership Theories, 2015).

Later Max Weber and Bernard proposed the Transactional Theory of leadership which focuses
mutual relationship between the leader and follower. According to this theory, leader must give
reward to his follower because of leader assigned task (Leadership Theories, 2015).

After that, Transformational Theory of leadership was proposed in which leaders influence his
followers by his/her behavior and nature and finally transform the followers with a trust
relationship (Leadership Theories, 2015).

2.2 Understanding Todays Executive Leadership Expectations

The need for executive leadership for organizations is a controversy one by many as they think
about its necessity. Some research has already proved its necessity over the time. Weiner and
Mahoney (1981) have studied around 193 companies with a 19-year time span about the
executive leadership necessity. According to their study, it is found that leadership is responsible
for around 45% discrepancy in profit margin and around 49% discrepancy in stock price in
market (S. Zaccaro, 1996). Another study by (Barrick & Alexander, 1993) with the financial
advance with leadership estimated around $25 million more with the organization (S. Jaccaro,
1996). Its necessity for an organization can easily understood with the following statement:

- Major obstruction hit the project

- Budget lacking in the project and need executive buy to go ahead
7

- Client needs an inner self lift and acquiring senior level administration can take certainty
back to the client and the project assets are being pulled from the project
- Needed critical skills set where many projects running together and need a balance in all
of those

In all of these scenarios, if an organization dont have any effective leader, it cant overcome
those obstacles. If there is any effective leader on any scenarios, the entire situation might get
solved easily. These are all substantial motivations to get somebody 'higher up' included and
pick up enthusiasm for the project with the goal that they can fill the needs and help the project
move beyond the barrier.

Dr. Ed Piccolino represented WJM Executive Leadership Behavioral Model in which four
leadership competence areas are represented which are important for 21st century. These four
areas are- Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Change and Leading Results (WJM Leadership
Model, 2011). Self-management, self-awareness, authenticity are the main trait areas in leading
self, connecting with others, building teams, inspiring are the traits under Leading others, global
perspective, decisiveness & discernment, strategic & systematic orientation are the trait under
leading results and fostering innovation, adaptability & resilience, courage are the main trait
under leading change leadership area (WJM Leadership Model, 2011). These practices might be
valuable as organizations build up their choice criteria for senior officials or potentially make
focused on formative arrangements to grow parts and employment execution.

Another leadership development model is PREPARE model proposed by S. DeRue & G.Myers
in which PREPARE means- Purpose, Result, Experience, Point of Intervention, Architecture,
Reinforcement and Engagement. Each of these measurements is a basic fixing to effective
initiative advancement, and that the plan of effective initiative improvement frameworks must
address each of these segments. The PREPARE structure composes key bits of knowledge from
the current writing in a way that incorporates what is thought about authority advancement,
highlights addresses that should be tended to in future research, and gives direction to people and
associations hoping to enhance their administration ability (S. DeRue & G. Myers, 2008).
