Summary:

This article is about the Big Five Personality Traits and how that affects

student success level. Along with the personality traits, the article also talks about

emotional intelligence and how that affects student success. In the article, school

psychologists tested conscientiousness, openness to experience, agreeableness,

extraversion, and neuroticism. They did this so they would be able to better direct

parents on assisting their childrens success. Out of the five personality traits, only

conscientiousness was positively correlated with student success. Neuroticism was

negatively correlated with student success, while openness to experience,

agreeableness, and extraversion showed no correlation.

Things were a little different when they tried to test emotional intelligence.

There were a few studies mentioned that showed emotional intelligence correlated

positively with success in school. The other studies found no correlation. The article

then went on to say that emotional intelligence needs to be separate from

intelligence and personality in order to show a correlation. The study that they did

concluded that emotional intelligence and the students performance showed a

positive relationship. Overall, after doing the tests the school psychologists decided

that it would be best to do more tests in the future in order to get more information

on this subject.

Summary:

The article that I found about business technology was all about new

technology relationships in business. The article began with a CEO who was hiding

having an iPad because they had not been approved for the entire company yet

through the IT department. The article went on to say that for a long time there was

a specific governance on technology in companies. Now the governance has been

opened to new technologies that helps businesses become better partners with

their units. The governance that we have moved towards has been shared between

many members of the company instead of just the IT department. The article stated

that employees are happier when they get to bring their own devices to work. This

makes things more difficult for the IT departments because now they have to be

familiar with both PCs and MACs, but it is helpful for the employees to use their own

devices.

The IT departments now have to know different skills to do the same job they

have always done. In order to stay cost effective the IT needs to be able to apply

those skills in an efficient matter. In business, IT is especially important because the

business doesnt want or care to know how their technology works, they just need it

to work to get the job done. According to the article, the better IT specialists seek

the same goal as the business in order to keep things running smoothly. Businesses

have to implement new organizational structures in order to get a competitive

advantage just from their IT specialists. The article predicts that full partnerships

between businesses and their IT department will emerge in the future.
