SUMMARY OF SKILLS
Conservation Research Experience
Directed pilot study to establish sampling method for an eco-unit monitoring project
at Pembina Valley Interpretive Center, producing results in a background literature
review, scientific report and oral presentation in collaboration with researchers and
community members.
Assessed grassland conservation methods for successfully reintroducing native
species such as controlled burning, fertilization and invasive species management in
Manitobas Tall Grass Prairie Preserve through a prairie geography course.
Experienced with using GPS to mark transect locations and to create a recreational
trail map for Pembina Valley Interpretive Center.
Familiar with GIS, specifically ArcGIS as well as Google Earth and Adobe Illustrator
to edit, analyze, transform and display geographic data.
Conducted a grassland inventory for the Harvest Moon society, identifying and
documenting the number of native and non-native species present in a protected

Equipment Operation Experience

Familiar with the use of ATVs and other utility vehicles through personal experience.
Cleared canoe portage trails through operation and maintenance of chainsaw
equipment in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park while employed with Red Lake
Outfitters, managing unfavorable wilderness conditions and navigating canoe routes.
Equipment operator for a geothermal company, operating a grout-mixer, hauling
equipment using truck and trailer, backing vehicle with trailer, navigating equipment
through industrial construction zone, working in high heat/humidity, completing safety
checks as well as following directions in fusing ground loops and headers.
Operated mowing and chainsaw equipment to maintain recreational trails for the
Stanley Trail Association as a volunteer.

Interpersonal and Communications Skills

Effectively delivered oral presentations on grasslands conservation, features of the


boreal forest and ecological history of the aspen parkland ecoregion through
university coursework.
Organized group discussions about food security, developed relationships with
community members and educated youth about gardening in a University Service
Learning Placement in northern Manitoba.
