LESSON PLAN

Your Name: Sydnee Gordon

Title of Lesson: Food Distribution- Minimize the Discrepancy within your school or community.
Grade: 4

STANDARDS
Concept 9:Contemporary World PO 1. Describe current events using information
from class discussions and various resources (e.g., newspapers, magazines,
television, Internet, books, maps).
Concept 4: Rights, Responsibilities, and Roles of CitizenshipPO 1. Discuss ways
an individual can contribute to a school or community.

LESSON SUMMARY/OVERVIEW
Teacher will start by asking students if they have ever seen anyone asking for food.
Did they stop and give any food? Why or why not? Then, the teacher will ask if they
think anyone, without naming names, at their school doesn't have enough to eat. The
teacher will ask the students to brainstorm ideas that the students could do to help
people in their community or in their school who don't have enough to eat. Then, the
teacher will instruct the students to choose one of the ideas, and create a plan to
implement it. The plan should be about a page-length long, in paragraph form, using
7-up sentences. Students may use the Netbooks to locate any additional information
they might need to help create their plan.
This relates to sustainability because students are using futures thinking and
strategic thinking to create a plan to distribute food to those who have not been
receiving food.

OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to create a plan to help people in their school or community obtain food who do not have
enough.

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
Students will turn in their plan at the end of class. It will be graded based on the following rubric:
3: Student had a clear plan. Student clearly addressed a specific audience. Students plan is achievable.
2: Student displayed criteria from both 1 and 3.
1: Student did not have a clear plan. Student did not address a specific audience. Students plan is not achievable.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE
Students have been learning about food distribution and the discrepancies that come along with food distribution
the past 3 days. Teacher will activating this prior knowledge by having the students summarize what theyve learned

WAYS OF THINKING CONNECTION
My lesson connects to futures thinking because students are realizing that the choices they are making can influence
the future. It also connects to strategic thinking because students are thinking of a plan or strategy with an end goal
in mind.
Futures thinking
The choices we have already made, and the choices that we are making both influence
the future. We can utilize this information to predict what the outcome will be in the
future.

Strategic thinking
The ability to think of a plan or strategy with a goal of what the end result will look
like.
