Fine, M. G., & Johnson, F. L. (2013). The interracial adoption option: creating a family across race. London:
Jessica Kingsley .
Retrieved
from http://lib.myilibrary.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/Open.aspx?id=509520

This source talks about a white couple's personal experience adopting two black children. They cover
things like how people surrounding them reacted to their decision, how the talk about where they came
from happened and what their experience raising adopted children was like.

We were told early in the adoption that we should not lie to our children because children either know
when someone is lying to them or will eventually find the truth. We have watched as friends have damaged
their relationships with their children because they did not tell the truth and their children eventually
discovered the lie. We feel strongly that parents should always be truthful with their children. (Fine &
Johnson, 13)
As two single women seeking to adopt (lesbian and gay adoption was not yet legal in Mass.).... (Fine &
Johnson,13)

This source is significant because it talks about two controversial issues regarding adoption. The process
of adopting outside of one's race and raising a child from a same-sex relationship. Today we have shows like
Modern Family trying to familiarize us with unconventional families however its still a touchy subject and a
great way to study this topic.

Fong, R., & McRoy, R. G. (2016). Transracial and intercountry adoptions: cultural guidance for
professionals. New York: Columbia University Press.
Retrieved
from http://lib.myilibrary.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/Open.aspx?id=984603

This source was more academic based and reaches many aspects of adoption. The authors talk about how
adopted children do mentally, academically and socially according to the living situation they had whether it
be national interracial adoption or international.

The nature of adoption involves complicated concepts like abandonment, rejection grief loss and
gratitude.(Fong & McRoy,2016)

It is the profound impact of these early life experiences as well as ethnic and racial differences that create
challenges for the children and their families, creating the need for effective clinical intervention and other
post adoption support.(Fong & McRoy,2016)

This source is significant because it addresses the more negative side effects of adoption like mental issues
and a hard time adapting in another area, sometimes country. A lot of children that our adopted have had
some sort of trauma in their life and need more help then maybe a biological child.

Roorda, R. M. (2015). In their voices: Black Americans on transracial adoption. New York: Columbia
University Press.
Retrieved
from http://lib.myilibrary.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/ProductDetail.aspx?id=838509

This book talks about first hand experiences of african americans that were adopted by parents of a
different race and culture. They also touch base with the necessity of a healthy environment to grow in.

Adoptees should be raised not only to be comfortable in their adoptive homes but also to be able to enter
and thrive in a society that still perceives or judges individuals and their abilities on the basis of their skin
color.(Roorda,2015)

I think it is very important that these adoptive families reach out to the black community.(Roorda, 2015)

This is a good perspective because it deals directly with adopted children and their experiences which is
something that isnt talked about very much.
