Dear Ms.

Winget,
My name is Tonya Taylor, I am pleased to have the honor of being your student intern
this semester. I am a junior attending ASU in pursuit of a degree in Secondary English
Education, with special interest in ESL. I am very excited to be a part of your classroom I hope I
will be a beneficial asset to you and your students. This introductory letter aims to better acquaint
you with myself and my education-related experiences.
My conviction to becoming a teacher is fairly new upon graduating high school in 2013,
I had no idea what I wanted to go to college for, and the thought of deciding what I wanted to do
for the rest of my life at age 18 was extremely daunting. All I knew was that I wanted to have a
career that made me happy, I didnt want to settle for a job I hated strictly for money, but beyond
that, I was clueless. I started at Mesa Community College as an undecided major, taking core
classes and whatever electives fit neatly into my schedule. Luckily for me, one of the elective
classes I chose on a whim, called Introduction to Exceptional Learners, ended up influencing
me in an unfathomable way, inspiring my new life direction. The rest is history! Ive been very
happily progressing toward my goal of becoming a secondary English educator, with hopes of
teaching English as a second language in South Korea once I receive my degree. The education
classes and field experiences Ive had thus far have taught me of the importance of interactive,
technology-integrated, inquiry based learning, which I hope to apply to my own classroom one
day. Education has taught me valuable lessons of patience and tolerance, and the importance of
inspiring curiosity in students. I believe that investing sincere interest in the well-being and
futures of children is they best way I can positively impact the future of this world. I may not
make headlines or retire to the Bahamas at age 40, but I believe my life as a teacher will be
rewarding in its own unmeasurable sense. Im very grateful that you will be helping me achieve
this goal.
I am looking forward to a semester of learning and new experiences! I thank you in
advance for sharing your classroom and your wisdom with me.

Sincerely,
Tonya Taylor
