Power system stabilizer (PSS) services
There is the possibility to equip all ABB excitation systems
with PSS functionality. The goal of the PSS is to damp out
active power oscillations between the generator and grid,
thereby improving the quality and stability of the grid.
PSS is a service function which needs to be calculated
based on plant specific parameters and is verified by tests
and tuning on site.
In the past years the effort for designing and commissioning
the PSS function in power plants increased steadily. This is
related to an increasing number of monitored instabilities

amount of distributed generation power (ie wind farms) and
