Subject: Kyles Performance Review

Inez,
After thinking about my observations of Kyle and reviewing Kyles team evaluation, I think that
he is not quite ready for the promotion. I have been supervising his team for several months and
after watching him and seeing how he interacts with his team, I believe that he could use a little
more time before a promotion like this. The overall score of his team evaluation is good at 2.42,
but the individual scores vary widely.
Contributing to a team is his best strength as he routinely contributes and scored a 2.83 in this
category. He always attends all meetings and is an active participant in each. He seems to
always offer his own ideas and suggestions. He can even command the meetings at times, as
he is very creative and comes up with all of the ideas. He also always makes his deadlines for
projects and works ahead.
An area of improvement for Kyle would be his listening. He scored a mean of 1.96 and the
scores range from 0-3. He does this well at times, but with certain coworkers he seems to
refuse to listen to them. I believe that he has to develop an improved understanding of how to
separate personal and workplace interests. He tends to favor certain coworkers while ignoring
or suppressing the ideas of the ones he does not favor. In meetings he does well with limiting
discussion to the main points of the meeting and clarifying other members ideas.
Kyle again shows an area for improvement in facilitating group problem solving. He still scored
well overall at 2.18 but again had a range of scores from 0-3. These zeros were most likely from
Kyle again not cooperating well with certain teammates. He works well overall in a group to
solve problems, but can ignore or dismiss the solutions and ideas of certain teammates while
allowing others. He still does well with asking questions that organize discussion and routinely
defines these questions to stay on topic. He also encourages suggestions and solutions from
most of his teammates.
I will talk to Kyle and make sure that he is ready for your next open assignment. I plan to have
Kyle take some additional classes to focus on teamwork and leadership. Taking these classes
will enhance his listening skills, and allow him to work more effectively with all members of his
team. I will also give him my personal feedback of what I have observed and his teammate
evaluation. Between my feedback and these classes Kyle will be prepared for your next
assignment.
Thank you Inez for trusting my judgement. Let me know if you ever have anything else that I can
do for.
Thanks,
Nathan Galbraith
