Section 2: Person Paper

Chapter 2:

In the light of graduation, everything became pleasant and at peace, not worrying

about what to do but to let all these memories from high school slowly fades away. As

Lily was 18 years old at the time, she didnt have a plan as to what do next. She decided

to find a job like most emerging adults would do. After searching and applying to

different nursing homes, she finally got hired at a skilled nursing community. By taking

the Certified Nursing Assistant class in her senior year of high school, she was able to

pass and became certified. With the knowledge from the class and from clinical she had

the reputation of being the best CNA, nurses felt at peace when Lily walked into their

hallways, the resident were pleasantly happy to see her in their care, and the co-workers

were ecstatic to know about her great teamwork. Lily did everything in her hands to

promote the very best care to each and every one of her residents; she worked there for 6

months. But things didnt go as plan while working here, she was taken advantage from

her co-workers and her boss. She didnt feel welcome when she first started. Things got

worse, so she decided to put her first two-week notice. It was painful for Lily to leave

because this was her first CNA job; she loved working with the nurses, her co-workers,

and the residents. Many people didnt want Lily to leave especially one resident, but they

knew if she stayed longer things might get worse. Lily will never forget her time and care

at this skilled nursing community.

Lilys aunt is known in the CNA community and knew almost every nursing

home/ assisted living in Utah; she guided Lily to assisted living. Lily was both excited

and scared at the same time because she wasnt familiar with assisted living. After a few

weeks and months, Lily, again, became known as the best CNA ever. Everyone
welcomed her and she felt loved in this community. It seemed that everyone was looking

out for each other. She felt a stronger connection with the residents; everyone wanted

Lily to care for her. She never had strong relationships with her fellow co-workers;

everyone felt like a family to her. It has only been 3 months working there and she

absolutely loves it. She knew that she was getting the right recognition she wanted, she

hopes to continue to grow as a Medication Technician but for right now she is going with

the flow. She does still think about her first job, her residents, and her co-workers. Many

times she wished she stayed longer or still worked and have two jobs but she knew that

would take her away from her first year as a college student. Adulthood is filled with

opportunities and challenges; finally choose their mates, their locations, their lifestyles to

express their personality, with the extroverts surrounding themselves with many social

activities and the introverts choosing a more quiet, but no less rewarding life (Berger,

2016 Chapter 13, p. 496).

Lily was first-generation to go to college, she was excited but nervous as well

because she would be the first one to either succeed or fail. Behind her, all the cousins

would be looking at her for advice and guidance but if she were to fail then they might be

discouraging to go to college. She wanted to show her family the importance of learning,

she knew her younger brother dont have plans to go to college. She didnt want this

tradition to recycle in every generation. Lily learned a lot during her first year of college,

she learned that she has the ability to work and go to school at the same time, she learned

the importance of being a student first, she learned how to control her eating habits and to

include healthy options her in diet, she learned to love online classes, she learned who

she want to be and who to become, and many more.

Lily continued to follow this routine, work and go to school at the same time. Her

plan was to finish her General Education at SLCC and graduate with her Associate

Degree in Pre-Health Science. She is still confused in her next step; to go to nursing

school or something else? She was afraid of making the mistake of choosing a career and

to later change it. She didnt want to waste money and time. She was indecisive as what

to do. So she decided to do things in steps, Lily graduated with her Generals in SLCC and

also got her Associate Degree in Pre-Health Science, while following the University of

Utah prerequisites for their nursing program. Then as she continues to follow these

prerequisites she decided to take the Ultrasound Tech. class at SLCC. In the past Lily

wanted to become a Veterinarian but when taking the Vet Tech. class in high school she

immediately changed her career to a Pharmacists. But that didnt work out as she wanted

it to be, she didnt fall in love with it as she did with CNA. Then she changed her plan to

become a Registered Nurse associating with the elderly. Lily was very interested in

Ultrasound Tech. as well she didnt want to become a CNA forever so she decided to

postpone her pathway as a nurse and try Ultrasound Tech. One example of the

relationship between age and job effectiveness comes from an occupation familiar to us

(Berger, 2016 Chapter 12, p. 461).

Many years has passed, after getting into nursing school at her desired university,

the University of Utah, she was finally graduating as a Registered Nurse in a Bachelors

Degree. Years after years she continues to move up that ladder, by working as a CNA

from nursing homes to an assisted living, and the hospital. By over watching the nurse

around her she was able to learn many different things. She finally decided to take the

next step and apply to a nursing program. It wasnt easy to get into a nursing program,
there were many competitions and hardships but that didnt take away Lilys dreams. Lily

worked hard in doing everything she can to get into the U nursing program. Then finally

she got in, in many trials, she did it. During nursing school, she was able to work and

shadow different types of nursing skills. She was able to get a job with her nursing degree

during her clinical. She worked in nursing homes as Registered Nursing caring for the

elderly. One needs creativity to generate novel ideas, analytical intelligence to ascertain

whether they are good ideas, practical intelligence to implement the ideas and persuade

others of their value, and wisdom to ensure that the ideas help reach a common good.

(Berger, 2016 Chapter 12, p. 449)

In postponing her career pathway as a nurse, she continued to fall back to

nursing. She always had this desired to help those who arent able to help themselves.

There were many times she wanted to give up, nursing school wasnt magical as she

thought it would be. Nursing school was tough, it took Lilys life on hold, she had to give

up her social life, she wasnt spending time with her families or friends, and she missed

so many things. She regretted many times about her decisions as a nurse but her families

and friends didnt let her give up so easily. After all Lily has gone through, they took

many steps to promote a willingness to help Lily succeed in her life difficulties. Lily was

very grateful to the people around her, so grateful that she never noticed that there was

someone who took an extra step in helping her. In the field of education, best practices

for the educator emphasize flexibility and strategy; discovering what learning is needed

(Berger, 2016 Chapter 12, p. 448).

Kris Wu, her childhood friend, made an appearance in Lilys life. Kriss parents

and Lilys parents were best friends during high school; they did everything together so
automatically Kris and Lily became friends. Unexpectedly Kris and his family had to

leave, at that time Lily was only in elementary school. It has been 10 years since she seen

Kris. Lily felt distanced from Kris because of the long distanced relationships and how

unexpectedly he left. She felt betrayed by his action because during those 10 years wait

he never wrote letters or called Lily. Kris at the time had to move back to his home

country, South Korea. There was a situation that was happening in the country and with

his family. Kriss father passes away from cancer, three years after being in South Korea.

Seven years later, his mother remarried. When Kris came back to the U.S. he fell in love

with Lily even though Lily didnt notice him. But Lily felt very sincere to Kris during her

time in nursing school.

Lily and Kris got married six years later. Kris was very understanding of Lily.

Lily was still in her prime years as a nurse but soon after Lily wanted settles down with

Kris. The honeymoon period tends to be happy, but frustration with a partnership

increases as conflicts arise (Berger, 2016 Chapter 13, p. 473). After the marriage and

honeymoon stage, Lily became six weeks pregnant, which was very surprising to Lily

since she had issues with her ovaries, Lily has polycystic ovary syndrome. During her

teens year, she was diagnosed with PCOS which gave her the issues of not having her

period regular, she was medicated with many different types of birth control because

most of them gave her issues; she got high blood pressure because of these birth control.

Lily was still confused and had very few knowledge about PCOS. All the doctors told her

it would give her troubles when trying to conceive but unexpectedly she became

pregnant. She did have issues with during her pregnancy, Lily and her parents were most

worried a miscarried or issues with her blood pressures because PCOS she has a higher
rate of having heart issues. Chronic stress increases depression and other psychosocial

illness that impairs thinking and attacks the brain itself; the psychological disorder

posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) harms a person long after an initial trauma (Berger,

2016 Chapter 12, p. 453).

Lily gave birth to a healthy son named Aiden. After her pregnancy Lily had to

stay in the hospital longer than usual, she had high blood pressure during her labor, which

cause some complication to her birthing. Her doctor wanted Lily to stay another week

longer to monitor her heart and blood pressure before sending her and Aiden home. Lilys

family was blessed with many wonders, she had given birth to a healthy boy who grew

with no health complication in his life. Aiden was very protected with his mother and

brought joy to his parents and grandparents. Aiden was very active and friendly to his

peer but his parents notice that he sometimes became lonely, he was wanted a

brother/sister. A year later Lily became pregnant again with no complication of

conceiving but this pregnancy was different from her first one; she had a miscarriage.

Lilys worst nightmare became true, she felt desperate, lonely and angry with herself. She

did everything in preventing a miscarriage but sometimes things happen for reasons.

Again, the people who loved her most surrounded Lily, just like when she was in nursing

school. Aiden seemed to know little of what was going on; he continued to show

affectionate love and joy into Lilys life. Kris continued to comfort his wife day and

night. Adults reject the idea that intercourse is the only, or best measure of sexual

activity; instead cuddling, kissing, caressing, desiring, and fantasizing become more

important (Berger, 2016 Chapter 14, p. 515). Lily still blamed herself for what had

happen but she felt at peace because she knew she would see her baby daughter some
days. She named her unborn child Miracle because it was a blessing to conceive a second

time. Emotion-focused coping help change their emotional reactions- for instance, from

anger to acceptance, from resentment to understanding (Berger, 2016 Chapter 12, p.

454).

Aiden continued to grow through his terrible twos to his first day, then Jr. high,

and finally his high school graduation. Lily and Kris couldnt believe he just graduated

from high school and now entering the world. It seemed like yesterday that he was taking

his first steps. Kris and Lily continued to live life by traveling, eating, and loving each

other. When looking back to those moments that felt unreal and how they were able to

move past those dark times. The empty nest is when parents are alone again after the

children have left; usually a time for improved relationships, partners can focus on their

mates, doing together whatever they both enjoy (Berger, 2016 Chapter 13, p.474).

Now their son is getting married tomorrow to his high school sweetheart who

helped him became the person he is. As we danced our last dance together, Lily wished

his son and his daughter-in-law much happiness and blessings. Aiden brought a surprise

to his parents during his wedding speech; he played a video that included his mother and

father life together that raised their son. Lily was brought to tears of the unforgettable

memories of her life; Aiden gripped his mother hands while his bride gripped his father

hands to bring them together in dancing their lasting love. Lily remembered her first

dance with her husband, it seemed that they were getting married as well. Family bonds

can meet adult intimacy needed specifically on the relationship between parents and their

adult children (Berger, 2016 Chapter 13, p.478).

Lily was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband

Kris had passed away in his old age peacefully by his wife. Lily continued to work as a

Registered Nurse until she couldnt anymore. Her son, Aiden, took his mother into their

home where Lily is being protected by her kids and grandkids. She continues to spoil

them everyday with wonders and knowledge she learned from her past. As technology is

growing her grandkids tries to update her grandma of the exciting new trends and

gadgets. She wakes up everyday with a smile on her face, walking her grandkids, great

grandkids, and their dogs every morning. Physical exercise, good nutrition, and mental

exercise prevent, postpone, and slow cognition loss (Berger, 2016 Chapter 14, p. 530-

31). Her son continues to lectures his mom the importance of her health, after dinner he

would always take his mother by his hand and walk her every night; remembering the

past. Lily passed away not long from her husband. Lily passed in her bed peacefully

surrounded by her son. Lily left a legacy that will continue to grow with her kids,

grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a nurse who continue to care for those in

need and a loving wife and mother.
