Requirements for presentations

Topics
- Presentations should be on a topic related to your field of study.
- Presentations should be based on articles or other academic literature, i.e.
it is a review of academic literature and complex texts.

Steps:
1. Choose a topic that is interesting or controversial in your field of study.
Consult with your teacher how you could develop/present the chosen
topic.

2. Process your sources: paraphrase, adapt for level C1, do not copy directly,
quote only when necessary, choose the appropriate form of citation;
remember that written sources are supposed to be read, your text should
be simplified and modified do not use very long sentences, know the
content and all the words and phrases you are using.

3. Prepare slides:
use appropriate font size and colour to make them helpful both for
the audience and yourself;
slides should contain the outline of your speech (not the text of
your speech);
it should be clear which slides were prepared by each presenter.

4. Structure of presentations:
title slide
contents
introduction with the aim and tasks
list of relevant words
body
conclusions
list of references

5. Create /choose activities to involve the audience:


they should be incorporated into the presentation
your topic-related
examples: a discussion, a role-play, a quiz, a game, a short reading/
listening task, etc.
6. Prepare handouts
a list of specific words (or terms) which will be used during the
presentation (15-20 words or phrases) in a presentable form: infinitive for
verbs, singular for nouns, explanation in English or translation;
specific words should be given in a slide and explained after the
introduction; printed and handed out to the audience;
- prepare activity handouts, if necessary.

7.Delivery requirements
group: 2-3 students
length: 10-15 min for each presentation
10-15 min for activities involving the audience (moderated by all
presenters)
speech should be fluent and lively (i.e., keep eye-contact with the audience,
use appropriate intonation, pitch and tempo, etc.);
use correct language (grammar, pronunciation and register);
speak instead of reading from notes.

Assessment criteria
Each presenter will get 2 marks: one for the preparation/content of the
presentation and the other for the delivery of the presentation.

1. For preparation/content:
structure
language (grammar mistakes, register, etc.)
development of the topic
use of sources (paraphrased, adapted, not copied directly, correct
references)
quality of sources (scientific, carefully selected, up-to-date, etc.)
presence/ absence of handouts
quality of handouts
presence/ absence of activities involving the audience
effectiveness of slides (layout)

2. For delivery:
speaking/ reading (the maximum mark for reading during the presentation
is 4);
correctness of language in terms of grammar, pronunciation and register;
fluency;
effectiveness of activities for the audience.
