Classroom Management Plan
1. Philosophical Statement: Each teacher has their own style of how they are going to
manage their classroom. I believe that perennialism and progressivism are the way that
our school systems should be teaching. Perennialists goal is to make sure that students
teaching ideas that will stay the same, the natural and human worlds at their most
other hand believe that students should test ideas with active experiments, in other words
the student should be up and moving and doing things on their own through the teachers
who have provided the examples. All of my classes will have both teaching styles enforce
upon them to make my classes energetic. These two styles of teaching will be enforced
upon my classes to make my students have fun while learning in a safe active
environment.
2. Behavioral Management: For my philosophy on behavior in my classroom setting and
gym setting, I will be enforcing the SODAS method. I believe that SODAS is the best
way to go because it makes you write out all of the options for you and your students.
The options you come up with are what you think are the best result for you. It makes my
students aware of the consequences and rewards of doing something the right way
compared to the wrong way. The students and I can also have a one-on-one conversation
about what they think they could have done instead, and I can come up with something
for them on the spot or the next day. SODAS is a discipline plan that a teacher and
student can resolve instead of bringing another person into the mix. SODAS is the best
enforced every day during class. First, the rules for in my classes. Rules: I will have two
sets of rules for both class settings. First for Physical Education. Students will abide
these rules: (1) Respect your peers, (2) ZERO BULLYING, (3) Come into class ready to
work hard, (4) Have fun! I strongly believe that these four rules I have implied for my
Physical Education class are the best. Respecting your peers should be used in an
everyday lifestyle (treat someone how you would like to be treated). A student who is
bullying another student will be sent to the office automatically. Bullying will not be
tolerated in my class. If a student(s) abuses the other rules other than bullying they will
receive a warning. If I see it happening on an everyday basis, I will sit them out for the
class and email their parents of what their child has been doing. (SODAS METHOD
ENFORCED). If that does not work, I will call their parents and set up a conference with
the principal to discuss what is happening and the students punishment. I also will
encourage my students to give full effort and have fun during my Physical Education
class. These rules set for my students will be placed inside and outside of the locker room
doors, this way each student will visually see it when they go in and out to change or go
to the bathroom. It will help reinforce the rules for my class by seeing them every day.
For my health class the rules will be the following: (1) Respect your peers, (2) NO
BULLYING, (3) Be prepared for class, (4) Come into class on time, (5) Have fun!
Students who are bullying others will be sent to the office, while the other rules will use a
strike system. The students will have 3 STRIKES towards their behavior. If they act out
they will get a strike. As they continue to act out in class the strike system intensifies. The
first strike will be me telling the student(s) to stop what they are doing, the second strike
they will receive a detention, and finally the third strike I will send them down the office.
These rules are the students guidelines for the school year. All students are expected to
follow the rules and use them every day to make them a better person and it will make
my classes more fun. These rules for my health class will be set up on a bulletin board
that I have created. The positioning of the bulletin board will be above the white board in
the front of the classroom so all students can visually see the rules every day they come
to class.
Procedures and Routines: For my gym classes I will come in early in the morning to set
up what I have prepared for the students to perform during my Physical Education class.
Once I have everything set up, I will have a whiteboard at the door for the students to
read what I have planned for them. For example, on the whiteboard it will have the
following: (1) Today we will be practicing for the beep test, (2) go to the locker room and
get changed, (3) when you get done changing go sit down quietly in your squad I have
assigned you to so I can take attendance, (4) if you do not have your clothes to change
into, come to my office and I will give you a shirt or shorts to wear. These procedures are
easy to follow and allows the class to get rolling as fast as we can. The students are
expected to come in a quick fashion so we do not lose valuable time during our class
session.
For my health class, the students must come into the class and sit where I have assigned
them for the year. Having the students assigned to a specific seat makes taking attendance
much easier. After taking attendance the students will then go over tasks I have created on
a PowerPoint explaining what I want the students to do once I am done taking their
attendance. On the PowerPoint it will say the following: (1) Pass all homework up to the
front of the class. After the students have passed their homework in I will place them in
the bin that is on my desk with their period on it. This way I can organize all of my
classes in separate piles to stay organized with their assignments. (2) Please read pages,
(3) When finished reading we will discuss what you have read, (4) students will answer
chapter review questions at the end. Some questions that the students will answer must be
explained in fine detail. This same routine and procedures will be enforced every day for
my students in my health classes. Having the same routines and procedures for my
students will be good for them to know what I expect out of them. It will also get
reinforce their minds of what I expect when they come into my classroom; this way
getting the class started faster so I can teach my lesson for the day and not waste valuable
learning time.
4. Classroom Environment: For my classroom setting, my desk will be placed in the front
of my student in the corner opposite from the entrance door. This way I can watch all of
my students when they are taking a test, quiz, doing homework, and so that they can see
me as well. I also like to be positioned in the front of the class so that whenever I talk out
loud or make an announcement all of my students can see and hear me. It will also allow
me to see all of my students when I am talking to them. Having good eye contact and
being vocal is very important for every class and having my desk positioned at the front
the classroom. For example, I would have a poster with a quote from H. Jackson Brown
Jr. saying The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today this is just one
example of what kind of quote I will have hung up around my classroom. I believe that
having quotes like H. Jackson Brown Jr. will have an impact on some of my students to
make them strive for the success in the classroom. Another thing I will have set up
around my classroom is the college I have attended (Franklin College) and the school I
am teaching at to show school spirit. Having these designs around my classroom will
be positive reinforcement, punishment, and response cost. I believe that these three
strategies are the best in order to control my students and set the standard high for my
students. For positive reinforcement, I will give praise and complement those students
who are doing well and their behavior is excellent. This will make the other students who
do not act well be aware that I will praise those who do well and act well during my class.
Although I will praise students, I will also punish students who are not behaving
correctly. Punishing either a student or the whole class will make them aware that I am
serious in what I am teaching, and if he/she or the whole class acts out of line then I will
add on something the students would not prefer such as more homework or handing out
detentions. I do not like punishing students like this because I do want to have fun when
teaching my lessons but if he/she or they act out this will happen. Along with
punishment, I believe in response cost. I like the strategy of response cost because I
reinforce the student(s) that I will take away something they like such as the last 5
minutes of class they can relax and get on their phones. I do not like to be like this as well
but in order to keep my students in line during my class sessions I will enforce these
and gym is what every teachers expectations for their students should be. I believe that
strategies are easy to follow and very simple for my students to follow during class. I
want to make my classroom setting fun and safe for all of my students so we can learn
