REGULATION ORDINANCE NO. 2009-151


AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE TAMPERING AND
VANDALISM OF ANY GOVERNMENT INSTALL:ll:D TRAFFIC
SIGNAGE IN THE CITY OF ItOILO, AND PROVIDING
PENALTIES THEREOF

WHEREAS, the traffic signs have proven vital to the success of any traffic
management undertaking.

WHEREAS, the City of Iloilo is in the process of completing the placement of


internationally accepted traffic signs in vital areas to provide convenience and safety for
motorists and commuters.

WHEREAS, despite the efforts, there are still people who deliberately vandalize,
tamper or destroy both old and new installed traffic signages.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Iloilo


City, by virtue of the powers vested in it by law, in session assembled, that:

Section 1. Definition of terms

a) Tampering - shall mean act of interfering with traffic signs


such as placing of advertisements, stickers, etc. on the
surface of the traffic signage resulting to distortion and/or
obliteration of the same without authority.
b) Vandalism - the act of deliberately destroying or damaging
property.
c) Official government installed traffic sign/signages - any
form of traffic sign (Regulatory, Instructional, Warning,
Informational) installed by the Iloilo City Government or
the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Section 2. It shall be unlawful for any person to tamper or vandalize any traffic
signage installed officially by the City Government or the Department of Public Works
and Highways.

Section 3. Violation of Section 2 of this ordinance shall render the violator liable
for a fine of Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00). In case of insolvency he/she shall be
subject to an imprisonment of five (5) days.

Section 4. All other ordinances, executive orders, resolutions, regulations, or part


thereof, in conflict with the provision of this Ordinance are hereby repealed and revised.

Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect after publication in a newspaper of


general circulation in the City and Province of Iloilo.
