We are learning that heat can be produced in many ways and can move from one object to
another.
Watch and listen to the animation of Jan Bretts book The Mitten

Move around the science room to find some things that you think are warm or cold.
***Safety*** If you dont know if something is hot, put your hand near it to check. It may also be
better to use the back of your hand.

Physical Sciences: Measuring Heat energy Term 3 Week 3
We are learning that we can feel heat and measure its effects by touch and using a thermometer.
Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2CH1cUkMgs
Draw 3 things that you could measure the temperature of using a thermometer.
We can use touch to describe temperature and use words like - cold, warm, hot, very hot.
We can use a thermometer to measure the exact temperature in degrees centigrade (oC).
Use touch and the thermometer to measure the temperature of the different water samples
on each table.
Drones, Droids and Robots is the school theme for National Science Week 2016. It was
was chosen specifically to highlight STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths by
focusing on autonomous systems technology.
Learning goals: That heat can be produced in many ways and move from one object to
another including by friction and that science knowledge helps people to understand the
effect of their actions. Science involves making predictions and describing patterns and
relationships.
Explore rubbing your hands together. Try rubbing slowly and quickly. What do you feel?
Place a few drops of water onto your hands. Rub them again. What do you feel?
When two things rub over each other there is a force in the opposite direction to the
movement called friction. Energy from friction creates heat.
The water between your hands reduces the friction.
Exploring sandpaper

Describe the force that you need to place to just begin opening a lid.
Describe the position of your wrists, elbows and even what you feel in your shoulders.

Write a sentence or two that describes and compares the level of friction with these changes
to your hands.

Physical Sciences: Heat Produced by Friction Term 3 Week 8
We are learning that heat can be produced in many ways and move from one object to
another including by friction.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples ways of life are uniquely expressed through ways
of being, knowing, thinking and doing.
Fire is very important in indigenous culture. It is used for cooking, keeping warm, tool making
and managing the land.
