Title: My Personal Philosophy for Using Technology in Education

I believe that education serves as a platform and a medium through which persons can

communicate and express themselves in an intellectual and effective manner. Technology can

assist in the way in which an individual is educated. For example: it encourages teachers to

prepare lessons bearing visual, audio and tactile learners in mind. I think that Educational

Technology is the application of knowledge, skills and attitudes in an easier way. One goal of

Technology in Education is to ensure that all learners needs are met in the classroom and as a

result, the classroom environment would be learner stimulated and learner centered. As a foreign

language teacher, I can teach Spanish and French with the use of technology. By using

technology, I am better able to cater to my students learning styles as well as to use the

communicative approach with my class. The communicative approach entails listening,

speaking, reading and writing. Students might become more engaged and interactive once the

use of technology is in classroom. There are six categories of technology: communication,

construction, energy, manufacturing, transportation and bio-related technology. As a 21st century

educator, I can use technology to give students control over their learning. For example: I would

carry the necessary technological apparatus for my lesson and based on the content and context

of the lesson, a technological activity that would students control over their learning is

PowerPoint Jeopardy. When students utilize this tool they will be able to construct their own

ideas and concepts based on the lesson.

I appreciate the importance of education and technology. Education is a very valuable

asset which I believe each child/learner should have access to. However in our Jamaican society,

our education system has yet made such education available and accessible for students from the

early childhood stage to the tertiary stage. Technology is also a very valuable asset that can assist

students access to education. Technology is valuable to education because with the use of

technology, there are several virtual learning environments. As a result of the virtual learning

environments, students are being able to access education not as wide scale as it should be; but I

believe that it could be in the near future especially now because of the increase in digital

literacy. Technology can be used to differentiate instruction. In the classroom, the teacher can

create an interactive website which would facilitate learning in a more technological

environment. I can use technology to address the issues of diversity by using different issues of

diversity and integrate such in my lessons. Technology will keep students who are at risk and

who are exceptional under control. Their behaviours will change and this would allow them to

concentrate on the content and tasks given. I can keep abreast of the updates and technological

developments by doing extensive research on technology integration in the classroom and how I

as an educator can apply these technological strategies and techniques in the foreign language

classroom. As an educator, I do believe that I should develop personally by interacting and

engaging more in the technological field so that when I am asked to perform duties that surround

the use of technology, I would be able to do so effectively and efficiently.
