Welcome to
Kindergarten & Dear Parents of our new Kindergarten Students:
Kindergarten FAQ
We are excited to welcome you and your child to our Edgemont Kindergarten
program for the 2016-2017 school year. In order to support a smooth transition
for the coming year we would like to share:
your childs class placement as either AM or PM
your invitation to Welcome to Kindergarten on June 1, 2017
your invitation to register for My First Ride bussing program
some Frequently Asked Questions relating to Kindergarten.

AM/PM Class Placement

As you are aware from the letter posted on our website, we follow a specific
process for determining class placement in Kindergarten:
1. Students in bus zones are designated to AM and PM based on their
home addresses.
2. We then consider parent requests.

We have had more requests for AM Kindergarten than we have spaces and
have therefore created a waitlist for AM spaces. Positions on the waitlist were
determined through a draw conducted by our Admin Secretary and me on April
20th.

Your child ______________________ is registered to attend the ___

Kindergarten class.

You have requested an AM space and are in position # __ on the waitlist. If a

space becomes available we will contact you to confirm that you wish to accept
the change to AM.

Welcome to Kindergarten
We will be holding our Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, June 1, 2017.
We would ask that you and your child attend the orientation together as our
goal is both to help parents understand our program and to help children to
see our school and feel comfortable in our environment. We would ask that you
make this a special time for you and your Kindergarten child by leaving all
other brothers and sisters at home. The evening will begin with a check-in
through our front doors and a gathering in the Learning Commons and then
time to move through a variety of stations where you will learn about important
aspects of Kindergarten and your child will engage in some of the tasks that
are part of the Kindergarten program. Examples include:
Inquiry and Play based learning
ABCs and I23s
Developing Fine Motor skills
Building Independence and Self-Care Skills.
Each station will have information for parents and tasks for children. At the
end of the evening each child who attends will receive a Welcome to
Kindergarten bag full of materials to inspire learning.

We have two sessions available: 4:00 to 5:30 OR 6:00 to 7:30. Registration

for each session is limited to 51 students. Please register for your preferred
session on the Eventbrite link:
