express his thoughts through words.
Hyde has a visual schedule of the daily events that
allows him to know and prepare for what is coming
next. This seems to reduce some of his anxiety.

Procedures

Introduction Activating Prior Knowledge
At the beginning of circle time, I would ask the students
if they have ever heard the saying, Stranger Danger?
If so, what do they think it means?

Read the story, The Berenstain Bears Learn about
Strangers. This story addresses why its not okay to talk
to strangers.

Lesson PreAssessment of Students
Procedure The students are asked if they know what stranger
danger is, I will pay attention to their answers to
determine how in depth the lesson needs to go. If the
students seem to be familiar with how to handle
strangers the activity will be a review.
Modeling of the Concept
After the book is read, we will have a class discussion
about if there are good strangers and bad strangers.
However, even if a stranger is a good stranger you still
shouldnt talk to them and should find the person you
live with. I and my aide will act out and model an
encounter with a stranger and what should be done.
After the demonstration is over, the students will pick a
partner and develop a two step action plan explaining
what to do if a stranger comes near. After they create
them, they will share them with the class.
Guiding the Practice
After the students are done sharing their action plans,
we will sing the Stranger Danger song as a class three
times through. They will then go back to their tables and
draw a picture of the people in their life that arent
strangers.
Providing the Independent Practice
While the students are drawing their pictures of the
safe people in their lives, one by one a student will
come and share with me what they would do if a
stranger would try to talk to them.
Transition
The students will be dismissed from the carpet back to
their tables by sharing with the person beside them
where one place is that they go with their parents for
fun.

collecting their drawings and asking the question, What
did you learn today that was important?

Videos and more books about the subject could be
implemented if there was a lack of understanding.
