Pilgrim Manor Retirement Community Named Outstanding Environmental Partner

By the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Pilgrim Manor Retirement Community is among 4 businesses in West Michigan to be
recognized as an “Outstanding Environmental Partner” by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and
Environment (DNRE). The award is given through the DNRE’s Neighborhood Environmental Partners (NEP)
Program. Other West Michigan organizations honored include The City of Wyoming Clean Water Plant,
Herman Miller Inc, and Mel Trotter Ministries. In all, 13 businesses statewide are 2010 recipients.

The NEP Program offers business and citizen groups the opportunity to work together to improve their
neighborhoods, making them cleaner and more attractive places to live and work. “I congratulate these
organizations for their enthusiastic commitment to the environment and a willingness to improve their
communities,” said DNRE Director Rebecca Humphries. “When businesses and their neighbors work together
to improve our environment and natural resources, everyone in the community benefits.”

Pilgrim Manor qualified for consideration as a result of their “Triple Bottom Line” business approach, which
weighs the values of environmental, social, and economic results equally as measures of success. “The
overarching goal of Pilgrim Manor’s environmental stewardship efforts is to engage our community in
enhancing quality of life for us all,” stated George Heartwell, Pilgrim Manor’s CEO. “This award recognizes
the commitment of our staff to this ideal, and demonstrates what is possible when everyone is working together
toward a common goal.”

DNRE Director Rebecca Humphries will be on hand to present this year’s awards to all 4 West Michigan
recipients at a reception to be hosted on the Pilgrim Manor Campus on Wednesday, July 28 th at 1:00 PM in the
Lindstrom Dining Room. Pilgrim Manor is located at 2000 Leonard Street NE, Grand Rapids MI 49505. The
public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
