Rocky Event Graphic Organizer #2 (Voyager Meeting)


There was a vice principle, teachers, and

some of my peers at this meeting. The
people being discussed were Voyager
students who need extra support, are
struggling, or refuse to respect the
culture of the classroom and school.
Student families were also talked about.
The main focus of this meeting was
students in Voyager classes who had
What? various troubles. The issues included
behaviors such as; not turning
assignments in, leaving class early,
yelling at students and staff, skipping
class due to conflicts, not connecting with
RMHS culture, and a student who went
from As to failing (presumed to be using

When? drugs). Teachers shared this information


with each other and tried to come up with
plans of action. This included calls home,
Lunchtime (11:00-11:30) April 4th,
2017.

Attending this meeting was a huge


learning experience for me, because I
didnt realize how much teachers
communicated with one another about
students. Not only was this encouraging

Why? as a source of collaboration and support,


but also sobering, as I was reminded of
the complexity of teaching. As an
educator, I hope that I am part of a team
that communicates honestly and comes
up with solutions for student issues. To
have other teachers by my side who are
experiencing the same issues with
students would make my job less
intimidating. Especially since I observed
teachers giving each other useful advice
or information about students that could
benefit them going forward. Not only did
the teachers share practical information,
but they also seemed to be venting their
stress and empathizing with one another.
If anything, this meeting reminded me
that teachers need support from one
