Abstract: K ongz i H etan J i ( Mi nutes of t he Musi c A l tar of Conf uci us ) is an
ancient f olk lit erary w ork of Daoism in t he Nort hw est er n China. It s Chinese or ig inal has
been long lost, but only t he T angut v er sion preserved. Scho lars fo und t hat t he narr at ive
thread of t hat w o rk w as originat ed fr om the 31st Chapt er of Zhuang z i. It is furt her po int ed
out in t he present paper t hat it s Chinese o riginal w as com piled no early t han t he middle T ang
tim es by an author of no m eans literacy , and t he subst ance of this w ork is a blending of
Buddhism and Daoism, w hich r ef lect s the secularizat ion of religion in t he T ang, So ng and
Xix ia tim es. T he last part of t he paper includes t he reconst ruct ion of t he Chinese orig inal in
acco rdance w it h its T ang ut versio n, in order t o provide some fundament al mat er ials fo r the

a heart of disloyalt y as he w as King of Anxi and Q in. H is deat h should be closely co nnect ed
w it h t he co nf lict for t he po sit io n of Khan. So w hat Zheng Sixiao said can be blieved.
