Reflective Writing Humanities 1100

April 26, 2017

Taking humanities class was really gave me a better understanding about what is

happening around us. In this class we have discussed the idea about the issues we are often

wondered and relates the issue to our own experiences through our cultures, religious, social,

intellectual, and environments. It creates a greater understanding about diversity around the

world and makes us more respectful to another.

Humanities class is not an easy class, it requires a lot of reading and writing. We also be

required to thinking critically, however there is no such thing that is right or wrong. The

assignments in this class were varied, we had written assignments, group activities, making a

video (kaltura), and activity outside the class room, civic engagement. Civic engagement was the

assignment that I enjoyed at the most. For this assignment, I attended the event called the Big

Questions Forum. The forum is an annual conference organized by the humanities program at

Salt Lake Community College, this forum consider the most profound issues raised in the study

of humanities. The speaker of the event was Tim Ballard. He was the founder and CEO of

Operation Underground Railroad.

On my final presentation. I was presented about happiness. We can relate happiness to the

wider context that we have covered in humanities class such as freedom, human rights, identity,

and our values.

Moreover, humanities class helped us decide what is important in our lives and how to

make it better. It introduced us to people that we never met, brought us to the place that we never

visited, and gave us the idea that never crossed to our minds.
