Rational Statement-Standard #10
Statement of Standard:10 Standard ten- Leadership and Collaboration.
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for
student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals,
and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. (New Jersey
Department of Education, 2014).
Name of Artifact: Welcome Letter
Date of Artifact: February 2017
Course: EDUC 230
Rational Statement:
For this artifact, I created a Welcome Letter as if I was a teacher giving it out to new
upcoming students and their families. I gave brief information about myself so that the
parent/guardian could know something about their childs teacher. I wrote about what the class
will be about, what the students will learn, and supplies that are needed for the class. At the end I
added my information and how to contact me for any information. This artifact correlates to
Standard 10 because it shows my leadership and shows how I would like to work together to
ensure the students knowledge grows.
This was the first assignment I had to do. It put me in the place of a teacher. I thought
about what I would want to write about in my future welcome letter and how I want to be
involved with my students parents to insure the students gets the best education. It also made me
think about how much thought my teachers have put into their welcome letters in my past. I also
learned how important this piece of work is. This paper is the kind of like the first impression
you make on someone. A teacher has this one welcome letter to introduce themselves to the
parents and students and make themselves sound interesting and show how much they love what
they do and how they want the best for the student. Although this artifact seems like something
small, it opens a window for the parent to get to know the teacher before Back to School Night.
I could use this artifact as a guide on how to make my professional welcome letter in the
future. I would add more specific information that pertains to the class I will teach.
