Summary of essential This article described how an urban middle school in New England
information: implemented the CICO method and the key aspects.
First, all teachers were trained over the summer and a specific room was
designated for CICO. Also, a system was put in place where students
that earned their percentage for each day received a token that they
could use or save up to buy something bigger in the future.
Also, the CICO coordinator made a copy of the behavior chart and it
had to be sent home and signed by the parent each day.
Key points were to make sure this is a high priority in the school,
develop a system for analyzing data and effectiveness, hold the students
accountable by having them rate themselves, and to have a plan for
students who do not react positively to the intervention.

your research topic
and study: This article describes the best practices to use in a middle school when
implementing the CICO intervention. The big strategy that stuck out to me was
using the tokens on a daily basis. Currently, I just use candy for a day and if the
students have a good week they are able to go outside for a period. I may try to
make my effects more immediate or give them something they can save up for a
bigger prize to give students a goal to strive for. Also, this study had the
students get their behavior chart signed each day. I was hesitant about this in
the beginning because communication between home and school is challenging
in my district but it may be something I will try with the participants to see if
there are any positive results.
