Main Objective: To identify structures of the third conditional in English.


To recognize and use key vocabulary, clauses, structures and information in short,
simple texts related to past regrets

Subsidiary aims: Students will demonstrate knowledge of the past participle forms of irregular
verbs and demonstrate knowledge of the typical structure of conditional
clauses by writing short with type I and type II conditionals

(Warm up) (T-S) The teacher greets the class, and Board, Chalk.
asks the students the plans they have for today,
tonight, this weekend, etc. The teacher can also 5 minutes
talk about his own plans, as to set the mood for
the lesson and the topic.

Presentation (T-S) The teacher presents the topic of Board, Chalk.


the lesson (Third Conditional). She describes
the situations in which the grammatical 10 minutes
structure can be used. He exemplifies and
contextualizes a set of sentences, and states the
rules to form said sentences. He also explains

some variations (If clause written before the
main clause and vice versa).
Practice (S-T) The teacher conducts a Board, Chalk, Coursebook
controlled practice activity. By asking for
volunteers, or naming someone randomly, a 10 minutes
student will have to complete the missing
information on the clauses of the exercise in the
coursebook. The student reads the sentence
aloud, applying the grammatical rules covered
in the lesson, the teacher corrects if necesary
and explains the answer, and then, she requests
another student to read the next sentence.
Production (S-S/T-S) - The teacher presents the notebook
writing activity. Students will have to create a
short text, using the content covered during the 20 minutes (production)
lesson to express a regret. Using the Third
conditional sentence, students will have to state
sentences such as If I hadnt come to this
school, I would have chosen.... Each S reads
the sentence aloud and appoints a classmate to
continue. T assists and helps if necessary.

The teacher reinforces the content covered in


the lesson by asking students what the aim of 3 minutes
the class was; He elicits information from the
students about the topic seen in the lesson.
Students answer the teachers questions.

T assigns homework and gives feedback. SS 2 minutes


have to write 5 sentences with the new rule to
express regrets.
