Berwick is #jim4berwick
the most contested town in Britain. And its going to be
contested again in the County Council elections on May 4th.
The creation of the unitary authority in 2009 was against the will of the people
and it has since largely been a failure for Berwick.
Im a practical, down-to-earth bloke, but I see the bigger picture! A joined
up thinking approach to planning and regeneration is essential.
The councils so-called regeneration body, ARCH, must be reformed to provide
facilities the town actually needs. Any organisation tasked with regeneration
should be looking at what the town actually needs and get it done, rather than
building surplus office space in the wrong place.
We need a proper College of Higher Education to give our young people the
skills they need, saving them 600 each year and 100 miles travel a day.
We are an aging population with
poorer than average access to
cars. I have been demandingand
will continue to demandanswers
about the delay to Berwicks new
hospital.
I will campaign on tackling the parking
and traffic flow problems in Berwick.
We must prioritise long-stay parking in
the centre of town for those who really
need itshoppers and touriststhe
people who actually contribute to the
economy of the town.

Nobody #jim4berwick
knows the towns heritage and
understands the potential for tourism better.
NCC and Northumberland Tourism should be
promoting Berwick as the jewel it is. It is an
industry that, together, we really can grow
and capitalise upon.
And part of this strategy must be the provision
of a proper coach park with the facilities
tourists need instead of the scandalous
waste of nearly 1million we have been
lumbered with in Chapel Street.
I have no vested interest in standing for
election.
I dont have business interests.
Everything I do will be for the benefit of the people and town I love.
I will vote with anybody that will help deliver benefits for Berwick.

On May 4th, every vote will count.

If you want change, you need a councillor with the vision and common
sense and the passion to make themselves, and the people of Berwick,
heard at County Hall.
If you normally vote for one of the main political parties, remember this.
If elected, that councillor would have to tow the line on any issue, but I will
have the freedom to vote with whichever group makes proposals that benefit
Berwick.
We in Berwick, have always had an independent spirit.
On May 4th show that spirit.
Vote Independent. Vote Jim Herbert
