1. Open file Reference.max
3. To make the tracing process less painful, right click on Box, choose
Properties, give Visibility any value under 1 (ex. 0.6)

4. Right click again on Box and choose Convert to Editable Poly
5. Switch to Left view (L) then position the Box at the alien’s head on the
illustration
7. Switch to Front View (F), delete half part of the box then Mirror using
Instance

8. Do another tracing process based on front view outline of the alien’s
head. Since you’ve did a mirroring, just do the half part of the head and
the other half will copy any modification on the original half

11. Extrude with 0 value then resize it using Scale tool (R)
12. Remove the face on the center edge then move the edge next to it to
that position

Eye Sockets
Back to the head, choose the middle vertical edge, and click Ring then
Connect
44. Enlarge 2 faces for the eye socket. Extrude with 0 height then scale

47. The alien’s body general shape has been made. Do some tweaking
until you satisfied with the result.
53. For the eyelids, clone both eyeball and give it 30 for radius

54. While the eyelid object still active, enter Modify tab, activate Slice On
checkbox. Give Slice From and Slice To any value you like so you’ll
have the eyelids just the way you want. Perhaps you also need to
rotate the eyelids since the slicing only face a direction.
55. As for the mouth and nose holes, do a similar process like the eye
socket but add several segments toward the lips

Clothing
56. Focus on the wrist again
57. Chamfer the edge loop on the wrist
58. Scale the edge loop closest to the wrist
60. There, you have it, a sleeve. Apply the same process to the other wrist
and to the neck for the collar.
61. Voila! Your alien doesn’t look naked anymore doesn’t he? All you have
to do now is give the cloth a different material (especially with different
color) from the alien’s body, or use the Multi-Sub Object material.
