Principle [Name]
[Name of School]
[School Address]

Dear [Principals name],

My name is Samantha Franklin and I am a Teaching Candidate at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers
College at Arizona State University. In 2015, I graduated from Arizona State University with a
bachelors degree in European history. Following my graduation, I worked for a year with an
AmeriCorps educational nonprofit program called City Year where I found my passion for teach-
ing and I am now back in school to earn my teaching certification in secondary education history
in the next few months.

As a corps member for City Year (an AmeriCorps program), I became passionate about students
from all walks of life receiving an equal and outstanding education. During this time, I worked in
an inner city elementary school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and spent my time as both the behav-
ior and PBIS coordinator. Alongside those roles, I also worked with my assigned classroom to
mentor and tutor 15 students in English Language Arts, math, behavior, and attendance.

I have also spent the majority of my time as an undergraduate at ASU volunteering my time both
with a service sorority as well as with Mesa Public Schools as an athletic coach. I have also at-
tached my resum to further highlight my qualifications and achievements.

I am currently seeking the position of a full time secondary education history teacher, but I also
plan to become certified in government and economics as well. If given the position, I will work
tirelessly to be an asset to [school]. My goal is to not just better myself as a teacher but to learn
from my students to provide the best education that I can give.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me by either e-mail or by
phone. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Letter of Concern to Parents

Dear [Name of Parent or Guardian],

My name is Samantha Franklin and I am Dans World History teacher. I am writing to you in
concern for Dans performance in my class over the past few weeks.

Dan has proven he is a very bright student as he continually sets the bar for class performance on
every test we have had so far. He is constantly engaged in class and raises his hand often to ask
insightful questions or answer the questions from myself of his peers.

However, over the last few weeks Dan has not been turning in his work and it has begun to se-
verely affect his grade. As of today he is missing 5 assignments: Industrial Revolution Letter;
Picture Analysis; (2) Weekly Current Events Summaries, and his Industrial Revolution Map Ac-
tivity. Overall, these missing assignments have dropped his grade a full letter grade. I have spo-
ken to him three times since the beginning of February and every time he tells me that he is tired
and will not elaborate further.

My classroom policy allows for late work to be turned in with a 10% penalty unless it is turned
in after we have moved on to the next unit in which late work receives a 50% penalty. We will be
starting the next unit next Wednesday (a week and a half from today), so Dan has more than
enough time to turn in his missing work and raise his grade. I also offer tutoring time before
school and during lunch daily and I am also available after school Mondays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays.

I would highly recommend that Dan take advantage of the late work policy as well as the tutor-
ing I offer. If he does he can absolutely raise his grade back to where it was.

Dan is a very bright student and has so much potential to succeed in what ever he puts his mind
to. I want to be able to give him a grade that reflects not only his naturally intelligence, but his
efforts in class as well.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me by phone (480-586-5460) or
email (srfrank2@asu.edu). You can also schedule a meeting with me if you would prefer to meet
in person.

Sincerely,

Samantha Franklin
Letter to Parents (Introduction)

Dear Parent or Guardian,

My name is Samantha Franklin and I am so excited to welcome you and your child to my World
History class. I graduated from Arizona State University in 2013 with a Bachelors in European
History and returned in 2016 to receive my Teaching Certification and am highly qualified to
teach Middle School and High School History, Government, and Economics.

History has always been a passion of mine and I am thrilled to be able to share that passion with
my students. The goal for this class will be for students to be able to answer the So What?
question history - or understand why events that happened hundreds of years ago still impact our
lives today. Students in this class will also develop critical thinking skills and crucial written and
verbal communication skills that will prepare them for the rest of their lives. This class will cover
many topics from early civilizations to the Renaissance to World War I and beyond. Some of
these topics may have sensitive themes and as your childs teacher, I will coach them through
navigating through these issues while maintaining an open outlook and encouraging critical
thinking and questions. This classroom will be a space where students can feel comfortable shar-
ing ideas, asking questions, and engaging in a communal dialogue about past and future events.

A more specific and in-depth list of covered topics, classroom procedures, and other policies can
be found in the class syllabus attached to this letter. If you have any questions, comments or con-
cerns, please feel free to contact me. I am also available by phone or for meetings (by appoint-
ment) after school. You may reach me through either e-mail (srfrank2@asu.edu) or by phone
(480-586-5460).

I am excited to get to know you and your child and am positive this will be a great year!

Sincerely,

Samantha Franklin
