FOCUS OF LESSON: Use different strategies to prepare for game play
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO); MA CF + National Standard(s)/Grade
Level Outcomes; Task #s where content is taught; Task # where objective is assessed:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(P)- Perform volleying underhand in a mature nature in a dynamic environment by following 4 of

the 5 skill cues of underhand bump visually during the bumping station. (NSGLO S1. E22. 4,
MACF 2.2) (Taught: Informing, Station; Assessed: During bumping station, student checklist)

(P)- Perform volleying overhead in a mature nature in a dynamic environment by following 4 of

the 5 skill cues of overhead volley on a student checklist during the setting station. (NSGLO S1.
E23. 4, MACF 2.2) (Taught: Informing, Station; Assessed: During setting station visually)

(C)- Identify different movement concepts by naming 2 movement concepts used in strategies of
playing Nitro Ball on an exit slip during the closure. (NSGLO S2. E2. 4 MACF 2.1) (Taught:
Informing, Reinforcement during activity; Assessed: on an exit slip during closure)

(A)- Exhibit working cooperatively with students of all different skill levels by using at least 2
different phrases of positive encouragement with their partner during the first activity. (NSGLO
S4. E4. 4a, MACF 2.7) (Taught: Informing, Reinforced during activity; Assessed: Visually during
all activities; Verbally during mini closure)

Check each objective: Is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate?

TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Provide at least 5 pinpoints throughout lesson to showcase students who are successful at
the given activities.

2. Keep transition time below 30 seconds each in small groups to maintain under 10% transition
time on the ALT-PE form.

3. Demonstrate effective classroom management strategies by using 3 different types of

behavioral management throughout the lesson depending on the situations that occur.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the
students in this class?
Students may have autism spectrum disorders and behavior management issues in the class,
so I must be able to accommodate them. Due to the students volleying with partners in stations,
there needs to be a stress of personal space.

LESSON PLAN FORM

Key:
TIME SEQUENCE OF LESSON ORGANIZATION REFLECTIONS

9:55-9:55 Transition: Students will enter the

gymnasium and line up on the red line.

Informing:
9:55- In Nitro Ball, we can play competitively
10:00 with friends. But, to help us have
success we need to use strategies. A
strategy is the plan we use to reach our
goal. So, in Nitro Ball, there are a few
concepts we can use as strategies,
such as, attacking open space, hitting
with force, putting the ball in a certain
direction. Today, at the stations, we will
practice what we have learned over the
past week, bumping, setting, and
serving.

Skill Cues for Forearm Bump: (Gopher

Sport)
Knees bent
Arms straight
Palms up
Use forearm
Follow through up
Skill Cues for Overhead Set (Gopher
Sport)
Knees bent
Hands Overhead
Diamond with hands
Push with finger pads
Extend arms
Skill Cues for Serving (Gopher Sport)
Hold low
Step with opposite foot
Arm back
Hit with hand
Follow through

Teacher Demo
Student Demo
What are some skill cues for forearm
bump?
Knees bent
Arms straight
Palms up
Use forearm
Follow through up
What are some strategies we can use
to achieve our goal?
attacking open space
hitting with force
putting the ball in a certain
direction

Signals:
Ready, Go
1,2,3, Freeze

Rules:
Personal space
Respect equipment, teachers
and students
Be responsible
Leave equipment on the ground
unless you are told to use it

When with our partners we want to give

positive phrases like good job, nice
forearm bump, great job moving to the
Nitro Ball

Boundaries:
Stay inside the 4 cones
CFU: What are 2 rules?
Personal space

Respect

Responsible

Equip on ground

**Demo Each Station**

Transition: Students will be placed

into groups of 4. Students will transition
10:00-10:0 to their assigned station
1
Activity 1: Strategy Stations
Task Style
10:01-10:1
0 Station 1: Serving
One student will be the server and one
student will be the retriever. The
students will work to strategically serve
the Nitro Ball to certain spots on the
court, using strategies like direction,
force and open space. There will be 6
continent cones (NA, SA, Europe, Asia,
Africa, Australia) inside the hula hoops
that students will try to serve into that
hula hoop. After the student serves into
that hula hoop, they will color in the
continent that they hit, hoping to color
in 6 of the 7. The students will alternate
serving every time, so they will have an
equal amount of chances.

Skill Cues for Serving (Gopher Sport)

Hold low
Step with opposite foot
Arm back
Hit with hand
Follow through
Extensions up:
Move the targets to more challenging
locations
Try using the opposite hand
Let it bounce the serve it

Extensions Down:
Move the targets to a closer location
Try hitting it into the general space

Station 2: Bumping
One student will be the bumper, one
student will be the tosser. The tosser,
will toss the ball to the bumper, who will
let the ball bounce once and then bump
it to a hot spot set up on the court. The
hot spot will allow the students to work
on strategies like aiming, direction,
force and placement. The students will
try to see how many hot spots they can
hit. The bumper will bump once and
then the students will switch roles.

Skill Cues for Forearm Bump: (Gopher

Sport)
Knees bent
Arms straight
Palms up
Use forearm
Follow through up

Extension up:
Toss the ball faster
Toss the ball away from the bumper
Extensions Down:
Toss ball slow
Toss ball at the bumper

Station 3: Set
One student will be the tosser, one
student will be the setter, one student
will be the bumper and one students
will be the assessor. The tosser will
toss the ball high to the setter, the
setter will then, set the ball for the
bumper, who will bump the ball into
general space on the other side of the
court. The assessor will be filling out
the psychomotor assessment for the
setter. This will work on teamwork as a
strategy for achieving their goal.

Skill Cues for Overhead Set (Gopher

Sport)
Knees bent
Hands Overhead
Diamond with hands
Push with finger pads
Extend arms

Extension Up:
Give a lower toss
Move toss away from setter

Extension Down:
Toss up to setter
Move bumper closer to setter

MINI CLOSURE AT STATIONS:

the class some strategies that worked
(Force, direction, teamwork, etc.)

next station

Activity 3: Strategy Stations

10:20-10:2 (Repeat)
0 Students will complete the next station
that they have moved to.

10:21-10:2
9 Transition:
Students will pick up their equipment
and return to the meeting place.
