Big Idea: This is a fun art activity to do with two and three years old.

Essential
Can the two and three years old can use their small motor skills to paint on the paper?
Questions:

Assessment: Students will be able to use paint and forks to make the design of the Puffer Fish.
(Evidence) Small Motor Skills

Standards: Engage in a variety of small muscle activities (e.g., drawing, painting,

printing, cutting, gluing, pouring, assembling puzzles, building with
blocks, manipulating play dough, lacing, stringing, tracing, writing)
Explore and experiments with a variety of tools (e.g., spoons, forks,
crayons, paint brushes, stapler, scissors, woodworking tools,
keyboards)
Regulate physical actions (e.g., follows classroom rules and routines,
uses classroom materials purposefully and respectfully, manages
transitions and adapts to changes in routine)
Objectives:
The objective is to discover what the children know how to paint with the
fork on the paper of the Puffer Fish.
Materials: White Paint
Color Paper for Puffer Fish
Forks
Scissors
Black Marker
Paper Plates

Anticipatory Set:
(Hook & Hold) I have a lot of new toys for our Beach/Hawaiian Theme. Have you seen any of these items
before?

Procedures:
First grab the color paper to make your Puffer Fish with. Then you would take a pencil to
draw the Puffer Fish. Once you have drawn all the Puffer Fish you then take the scissor to
cut them out. After you get them cut out grab the plastic forks or regular forks along with the
paper plates. Then you grab paper plates to put the white paint on it.

Closure: You did a great job showing me how to use the forks to paint your Puffer Fish. Did you have
fun painting? Was it fun painting with forks instead of paint brushes?
Adaptations: The purpose of this lesson to see how the children paint with forks. The special needs for one
of the children is to make sure there is color paper so the child can see what they are
painting.
