for body

Tools Required for Construction:

Drill set
Jig-Saw
Hot Glue Gun
Wood File
Saw

Skills Required for Project:

Basic knowledge and experience with power tools

Quality Tolerances:

Connecting cuts should fit well together with minimal spacing

Gluing of the parts should hold well with no weak areas
Hole should be drilled straight through the wood entering perpendicular and coming out
perpendicular at the other end with a margin of error of <1mm
Wood should be cut to specifications with a margin of error of 3mm for the length

Construction Method

Rover Body

1. Obtain materials and cut wood to size, complying with drawing DWG No d_sd1

2. Check cuts ensuring they are correct.

3. Connect each piece of wood together as shown on DWG No d_as2 and glue together using
wood glue

4. Inspect the connections ensuring they are strongly held

5. Cut off any overhanging wood left after the connection of the corners and file them down to
leave the body as shown on DWG No d_as2

Rover Axles

6. Drill three holes directly through the middle of each finger joint as shown on DWG No d_sd1
on the design brief

Page 6
STAVA - DESIGN PACKAGE

7. Check the holes drilled with the design brief ensuring they are correct

8. Cut the galvanized steel rod to three pieces of size shown on DWG No d_ax1

Rover Wheels:

1. Gather materials and ensure tennis balls are not cracked

2. Drill directly through the middle of each tennis ball

3. Connect the wheels and axles to the body as shown on DWG No d_as2

4. Secure the tennis balls to the axles by using hot glue on the connections

Check the connections and ensure they are strongly secured

Testing to Be Done by Constructors:

Before submission of the Rover back to the designers, you must ensure the Rover rolls straight
and can withstand a fall of 1m while holding a water bottle.
2 successful, consecutive tests must be completed.
All joints and dimensions must be checked and must comply with the design brief or contact
designers.
