Charity ball tribute in
memory of tragic John
A charity ball is being held at Thornton Hall
Hotel on 18th September to raise money for
Unicef Sport in Memory of John kerr. John died
suddenly aged 46 with a Coronary Thrombosis
in June 2006 while on holiday with his wife
Joanne and their daughter Ellen and son
James. In 2008 the family organised a
charity ball to raise money for the British
Heart Foundation and managed to raise
over £6,000.
This year it was decided to raise the
money for Unicef Sport as this celebrates
John’s life. John became a schoolboy The late John Kerr
Tranmere Rovers player and went on to
make football his career. The last 15 years of his career was spent coaching, nurturing
and developing young talent with his final role as Academy Manager at Cardiff City
Football Club.
The family live in Parkgate with James playing for Neston Nomads and being very
busy at the Tennis Club.
John’s older daughter Chloe has recently skydived for the British heart Foundation
raising £500 and Joanne with her sister-in-law Karen did the High Peaks Challenge last
November also for the British heart Foundation.
Tickets cost £45/head, £40 if table of 10 or more. This includes reception drinks, 3
course meal with coffee and chocolates, raffle and Biker Groove are the band.
Tables need to be between 8-12 people.

BusES stop: The 23 bus, which runs through Neston and Willaston to Chester
and Heswall stopped running at the end of July. This will just leave the 22, which
runs through Neston and Willaston to Chester and West Kirby, and the 24, which
runs through Neston, Ness and Burton to Chester and West Kirby. The service is
provided by Helms of Eastham.

ow is the time to take control of
your money (instead of letting it
control you),
Here’s a summary to help you improve your personal
finances.
1. Track every penny you spend. This is the best way
to become conscious of how money actually comes and
goes in your life as opposed to how you think it does. This
step makes the biggest impact. It doesn’t matter how you
track your spending. The most important thing is to do
it. Whichever method you choose, stick with it. Make it a
habit. Don’t fudge the numbers.
2. Develop a budget. After you’ve tracked your spending
for a few weeks, use the data to develop a budget. Budget-
ing is one thing that sets the wealthy apart from the rest of
us — 55% of millionaires keep a budget.*This provides a
roadmap for your money.
3. Start an emergency fund / get out of debt
For years too many of us have spent everything we’ve
earned. This works OK until something goes wrong and
something always goes wrong whether it’s the car or the
washing machine. Typically we’ve financed such emergen-
cies with credit cards. So open a savings account and add
£20 - £50 to your account every time you get paid. After
you’ve saved £1000, then you can attack your debt.
If you are struggling under a heavy debt make it a priority
to repay this burden. It feels fantastic to have that weight off
your shoulders. If you have the mental discipline, you’ll save
money by paying down your high-interest debt first.
4. Spend less than you earn. If you’ve started on step 3
then your on the way to achieving this goal. This is the fun-
damental money skill. It’s common sense, yet many people

5. Start planning for the future. This is your chance to

6. Seek the help of a financial planner. Knowledge is

quicker. They can help you structure your finances for your
needs, get a better balance and save you money. Being in
control and having someone guide you has to be the best
combination to financial wealth and health.
7. Final words. Taking control of your finances can be
intimidating but it doesn’t have to be that way. Designate
one specific date as your personal money day. Use this time
to get the basics right and review it with your adviser. You’ll
not only save money but you’ll save masses of time and
worry.

Lunch time is over for Barbara and Irene!

pupils and staff of St. Winefride’s RC Primary School said a sad farewell to two
dinner ladies Barbara Harris and Irene Millington, who between them have served
many generations of children at the school for an amazing 73 years.
Mrs Millington started at the Little Neston school in 1969, working for two years
until she had to go into hospital, when her sister, Mrs Harris, stepped in to cover
her absence and has stayed ever since. Mrs Millington rejoined the dinner staff in
September 1978.
When the ladies began working, St Winefride’s school was based in the building
next to St. Winefride’s Catholic Church in Burton Road; the ‘Old School’ as it is
fondly remembered. A ‘Thank You’ Mass was held, followed by a buffet where Mrs
Harris and Mrs Millington entertained staff and pupils with stories of their early
duties which included ‘lighting the fire’ in the school hall to warm it up for children
eating their lunch there!

Theatre club funding boost: Little Actors Theatre Company is delighted to

announce that funding has been secured from the John Thaw Foundation.
The foundation supports young people across the country so they can access the
performing arts.
The funding for Little Actors is specifically to support children from low income families
to access our Theatre Club and DramaTots. The award will allow LATC to offer half
price places for eligible children aged 2 ½ - 18 at the NC&YC on Burton Road on a
Saturday morning.

Many of you may have seen recent negative publicity surrounding a very small number
of veterinary practices in the UK. While this will naturally raise concerns and questions
for the clients of those featured, these practices are in a tiny minority.
Nevertheless, at Churchview we recognise that our own clients may want reassurance about
the topics highlighted and we welcome the opportunity to discuss any questions that you may
have at any time.
One of the key issues raised regularly within the veterinary industry is the potential exploita-
tion of insured patients. In the current economic climate where money is tight, it has never been
more important to consider the benefits of pet insurance particularly as with today’s advances in
veterinary medicine, we as vets can often do more for your pet than ever before.
Sometimes, however this can be expensive, particularly if your pet requires long term, or spe-
cialist treatment. Unfortunately, some veterinary practices may have seen this as an opportunity
to “over treat” animals, sometimes running expensive diagnostic tests just because an animal
is insured. We would like to reassure you that at Churchview vets, we offer the same options of
tests/treatments for all of our clients, regardless of whether they are insured or not.
Diagnostic testing is an area fraught with difficulties in decision making. Not least because often
the only way to find out the value of a test is to carry it out. Of course if
we knew the result in advance there would be no point in doing the test!
So, naturally, clients who are insured have more financial freedom to
pursue further investigations, however we would never knowingly carry
out any unnecessary treatment or tests and always involve our clients in the decision making process.
Our vets will always discuss the options with you so that you are fully aware of the possible lines of treatment and costs
so that you can make a considered decision, based on your own financial constraints.
Another area of concern raised through the media is that of untrained staff carrying out procedures on animals. This will
naturally cause alarm bells to ring with clients and again at Churchview we can reassure you that we pride ourselves on
our well trained and experienced veterinary and nursing teams.
As in every area of health care, both human and veterinary, we are governed very strictly to ensure that our staff are only
carrying out tasks which they are trained and competent in. While our Veterinary Nurses are legally allowed to carry out a
small number of surgical procedures, all of our surgery at Churchview is only carried out by fully trained & qualified vets.
Nurses will naturally play an active role in the care of your pet while it is under our care and you can feel assured that they
are experienced and competent in all pre and post surgical procedures and carry these out on a daily basis.

Stars on stage: Children from Parkgate Primary

Widow Ruth’s pride after Army

finally recognises soldier’s service
A SOLDIER who died
during the troubles in
Northern Ireland has been
recognised for his service
27 years after his death.
Heinz Pisarek’s widow
Ruth was thrilled to receive
the Elizabeth Cross
in memory of her late
husband.
Ruth, who lives in Neston,
was just 29 when her
husband, Bombardier Heinz
Pisarek was killed while on
duty in Northern Ireland in
November 1973.
At the time of his death,
Bombardier Pisarek was
14 days into his last stint in
action, which should have
seen him returning home
and re-entering civilian life
within six weeks.
Ruth was left with two
sons, Karl and Dwyan,
aged just seven and four
respectively, to bring up
on her own. They were
based at the time in Celle,
near Hanover, Germany,
where both her sons had
been born while Heinz was
serving there with the 94th
Regiment of the Royal
Artillery.
For many years Ruth
felt that Heinz’s supreme
sacrifice had gone
more or less unnoticed
by the authorities until
she received a card of
remembrance from the
Army after some 25 years
had passed.
Then, in September
2008, came one of Ruth’s
proudest moments, when
she and her sons and
daughter-in-law Sharon
were invited to attend
a Service at St Paul’s
Cathedral in London, to
commemorate the end
of Operation Banner by
the UK Armed Forces in
Northern Ireland.
Presentation
More was to come,
however, when in May of
this year Ruth was invited to
attend Warrington Barracks
where she was presented
with the Elizabeth Cross
and a Memorial Scroll
in memory of her late
husband, by the Lord
Lieutenant of Cheshire, Mr
David Briggs MBE.
A comrade from her late
husband’s regiment had
contacted Ruth to tell
her that the Queen had
announced that close
relatives of soldiers who
had died whilst serving
their country were eligible
to receive the Elizabeth
Cross. She contacted
the authorities and was
naturally delighted when her
application was successful.
Ruth said: “It made me
so proud to receive this
Cross and Scroll. I now
feel my husband has been
acknowledged for giving his
life where before I thought
he had been forgotten.”
After her return to England
from Germany back in
1973, Ruth initially moved
in with her parents in
Liverpool, but eventually
settled in Neston in 1983.

Burton runners raise £2,000

Burton residents Chris and Kerry
Ashcroft recently competed in both the
Windermere Marathon and the Mersey
Tunnel 10K races.
Between them they raised
over £2000 for two charities,
Clatterbridge’s oncology Centre and
the Brathay Trust.
In Windermere, on a tough hilly
course, in May they both came
in just over the 4 hour mark for
personal bests. For Chris it was
his 2nd marathon (28 years
apart!!) whilst Kerry has now
done five!
They both hope for a sub-
four hour race at some
stage, and they used their
training to good effect in
the Tunnel run too. Once
again they had good runs,
Chris clocking a PB at just
under 47 minutes. Their

Mostyn House School 1854 - 2010

Following closure of Mostyn House School at the end of the 2009/10

academic year the Grenfell family has appointed RPS Planning to
assist in discussions with the local planning authority regarding the
future of the School site.

The family is keenly aware of the sensitivities arising from the conser-
vation area location and the historic character of the buildings. They
want to identify a viable, long-term solution that recognises these im-
portant characteristics and contributes positively to the character and
appeal of Parkgate.

Alongside the advice of the Council the views and opinions of the lo-
cal community will form an important part of this process. The first
public consultation event in relation to this will take place in the
school in early September; details will be announced during August.

Prior to this, comments may be posted to Mostyn House, Parkgate,

Neston, CH64 6SG or e-mailed to office@mostynhouse.com.

Classic Car Show at Foxes Riding School, Ledsham, 10am-4pm, organised by North
Cheshire Classic Car Club. The show is for classic cars, Motorbikes and Camper
