Adolescents and their friends Health-Risk Behaviour: Factors that alter or add to peer

influence.

This fragment of the research paper is based upon the health risks and factors that

contribute to adolescents and their friends peer influence. This research was done with a

main objective to exemplify adolescents health risk behaviours which includes the

dysfunction of respective families, acceptance to social life and depression as elements that

contribute to the connection between adolescents and peers risk behaviour.

This research was done by selected adolescents submitting reports on their substance

use which involves cigarette and marijuana use, substantial drinking, violence which includes

possession of weapons and physical violence, suicide which involves suicidal attempts and the

thought of pursuing suicide. This method assisted tremendously to determine the health risk

behaviour of adolescents and their friends. Research was done using 527 adolescent

participants in grades 9-12.

Substantial adolescent substance use, violent behaviour and suicidality has been

involved amongst the most importantly considered health-risks that are responsible for over

70% of illness and death amongst young adults.

Pragmatic resolutions have indicated that the amalgamation of adolescents with friends who

engage in risk behaviour is a distinct predictor of adolescents and their health-risk

deportment for substance use and violent conduct. According to various conducted research

alcohol abuse by adolescents friends is fundamentally linked with adolescents alcohol use.

It was also determined that young adults select associates that participate in analogous

types of behaviour and socialization strategies according to the social learning theory. Based

on the choice of associates with similar behaviour, adolescents ambiguously influence each

other to participate in these behaviours.

It is also said that with youths interaction with the positive peers will contribute to them

making positive choices.

The four main potential health-risk behaviours that was examined was peers deviant,

substance use, prosocial and suicidal behaviours.

The second goal of the study was to investigate factors that contribute to adolescent

health risk behaviours. Two models were used to conduct this study. The findings were
psychosocial moderates can assist to rectify the magnitude of the linkage between peers and

adolescents health risk behaviour.
