Torsional stiffness analysis of bonnet

Content analysis

According to the relevant design requirements, through the CAE technology on the hood
torsional stiffness analysis, the main contents include:

1. The construction of the hood finite element model

2. hood torsional stiffness analysis

Model Description

Softwares used:

Altair Hyper Works 13.0

Finite element Process:

According to engineering practice and hardware conditions, the mesh size is taken as 4-
13mm, an average of 8mm, combined with the size of the structure to be set, large structure can
be slightly larger, small structure to take small. Mesh inspection standards. Aspect ratio <5,
warpage <15, jacobian> 0.7.QI check value is less than 0.1. As the hood is mainly composed of
the cover, the thickness of the size is much smaller than other sizes, so the hood grid selection
PSHELL shell unit form. The finite element modeling of the hood is carried out by means of
dividing the parts, connecting and assembling them separately.

The hood inner and outer panels using a hemming process, the General process edging:
edging is set to one grid, in edging the inner side, the inner and outer panels for node connection,
and definitions: edge thickness=outer plate thickness*2+inner plate thickness. As shown in
Figure 1. To establish the finite element model shown in Figure 2.

Boundary and condition:

Border: left and right hinges at constraint 12346, right front buffer block constraint 3.
Constraints are shown in Figure 3;
Case 1: weight
Case 2: left front loading point applied vertical load 180N;
Loading point: the left front angle inward about 25mm inside the plate, the loading point
shown in Figure 4;
Observation point: the left front corner inward about 25mm outside the board, the
observation point shown in Figure 4, the yellow dot.
