Research Proposal

Automation is defined as the large use of automatic equipment in a

system to get a desired output. This phenomenon came about after the

gradual advancements in technology from the Industrial Revolution and

particularly after the invention of the computer. Automations role in fact is of

an intermediate nature. An intermediate that converts a set pattern into

output. Nowadays, with the ever-pacing heights of science and technology, it

is developing a new meaning.

In the last five or six decades, Automation has become an integral part

of many industrial processes most notably manufacturing. It has effectively

taken its position in the workforce and replaced labor extensive jobs.

However, it is still a very young concept, fully introduced only in a handful of

top notch developing industries. It has hardly hit the third world countries so

the world as a whole still remains largely unaware of it.

This research paper answers the question how exactly Automation has

affected us and how it is changing the world as we know it.

The truth is this. The world population started to spike in the

eighteenth century. Shortly after, the industrial revolution was introduced by

which many of the manufacturing started to become mechanized. Prior to

this, all the work was done manually and people used to work longer hours.

However, in the nineteenth and twentieth century, mechanization combined

with the increasing population had gradually took its toll on the total jobs. So,

many people in this frame of mind argue that if we allow computers and

robots to do our jobs then unemployment will increase.

But the industrial revolution brought with itself many new jobs that

were unthinkable before then such as textile workers or iron workers.

Similarly, many people strongly believe that Automation will also introduce

new jobs. Their claim is that technology always fruits employment.

So, I think there is a hot debate on Automation and its effects or its

soon to be effects on jobs as well as day to day activities. Therefore, it is

interesting to know whos the right party here.

Another reason why I think its beneficial to research on this is that the

young generation should be informed what the world of today is going

through and possibly what the world of tomorrow is offering. All this

information will ultimately encourage youngsters to think about their future

and view education in a new way. In all the research paper, will act as a kind

of help for all those people who are making up their minds about which

professions to choose for the future.

I will follow a two-type search strategy. The first type of search will be

on the effects of Automation on employment. The second type of search will

be on the effects of Automation on the society. Both these search types will

be displayed parallel to each other so that comparisons can be made easily.

In the end, I will try to combine both search types and give an overall

research on Automation and its effects.
