Site-Specific Steel Erection Plan

XYX Project

Plan. Pre-construction conference and site inspections may be held between YOUR COMPANY STEEL
ERECTORS and GENERAL CONTRACTOR Construction and others such as the project engineer and
fabricator before the start of steel erection. The purpose of such conference is to develop and review the
site-specific erection plan that will meet the requirements OSHA 1926.752(e) WAC 296-155 & Corp of
Engineers EM 385-1-1

(1) THE SEQUENCE OF ERECTION ACTIVITY developed in coordination with the controlling
contractor that includes the following: Material deliveries: YOUR COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS
will follow GENERAL CONTRACTORS guideless for steel lay down area. Material staging and
storage; and Coordination with other trades and construction activities: Stored structural steel to be stored
as to not cause a hazard, decking to be stacked no more than five feet high, no loose or misc. iron allowed
within 6 feet of perimeter roof, unused misc. steel secured at the end of each shift.

(2) A DESCRIPTION OF THE CRANE: (XYZ CRANE SERVCE WILL PROVIDE CRANE
CERTIFICATIONS): Crane supplied with certified operator, load chart, operator, and equipment
certifications will be available upon arrival on-site. Site preparation; firm, level ground around perimeter
of building capable of supporting heavy loads.

(3) CRITICAL LIFTS: (75% or more of crane capacity or two crane pick) including rigging supplies
and equipment.

(4) A DESCRIPTION OF STEEL ERECTION ACTIVITIES STABILITY: considerations requiring


temporary bracing and guying will be considered before placement. Initial crane set will be determined
by GENERAL CONTRACTOR and YOUR COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS site supt. EXAMPLE
Erection: Columns first third floors and roof beams; rigged using one or more chokers to the hook of
lifting equipment, each lift will have a tag line.
When Multiple Lift Rigging is used, the procedure outlined in the YOUR COMPANY STEEL
ERECTORS site specific fall protection plan will be followed .

(5) FALL PROTECTION: A description of the fall protection procedures that will be used to
comply. NOTE: *****Safety Monitor System may be used. Note Tab 4 Site Specific Fall Plan

EXAMPLE OF FALL PROTECTION ACTIVITY
1. First - Third During connecting activities Connectors will WEAR a Class III Full body Harness and
floors and roof 6lanyard. . Work will be performed using an approved aerial lift/scissor lift with
erection activities approved guardrail system for fall protection. Boom supported aerial lift platforms
(JLG type) require being tied off to manufactures anchorage point. Employees are
required to keep both feet on working deck of aerial lift per manufactures
recommendations. Should the connector choose to leave the aerial lift, he will exit to
the structure using a Beamer 2000 type anchorage to maintain 100% tied off.
2. Decking In order to maintain 100% tie off inside 6 foot perimeter of building YOUR
Operations COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS will attach an approved Miller Mighty-Lite
Leading Edge retractable lifeline and will incorporate the use of an approved Terminator horizontal
Work lifeline system. Both ends will be secured at approved anchorage points and a
maximum of TWO approved Retractables will attached giving the workers a free fall

distance no more than 2 feet.

3. Misc. Stairway Ironworkers will use approved vertical lifeline lifelines OR retractable lifeline system
steel erection both limiting free fall to two feet or less.
4. Bolting up/ Ironworkers involved in bolting up operations will use aerial lifts with approved
Misc. Steel guardrail systems. Should an Ironworker choose to leave the aerial lift 100% tie off
erection will be maintained by use of double lanyards and Beamer 2000 approved anchorages.

(6) A DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIAL PROCEDURES REQUIRED FOR HAZARDOUS NON-


ROUTINE TASKS. Review with GENERAL CONTRACTORS site Supt. prior to dispatch of
personnel to perform work.

(7) A CERTIFICATION FOR EACH EMPLOYEE, who has received training for performing steel
erection operations as required. Journeyman Ironworker listed below:

(8) A LIST OF THE QUALIFIED AND COMPETENT PERSONS. WAC 296-155-525 Qualified
person - a person who, by possession of a recognized degree or certificate of professional standing, or
who, by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated the ability to solve
or resolve problems relating to the subject matter and work. YOUR COMPANY QUALIFIED
PERSONS.

(9) A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURES THAT WILL BE UTILIZED IN THE EVENT OF


RESCUE OR EMERGENCY RESPONSE.
YOUR COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS shall provide for prompt rescue of their employees in the
event of a fall or shall assure that employees are able to rescue themselves. The rescue system that will be
used on this project is the use of onsite YOUR COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS aerial lifts that will be
maneuvered under the suspended worker and raised to affect a rescue. On site Tower Crane may be used
to assist. Call 911, perform first aid as needed, and notify GENERAL CONTRACTORS supervision,
aid in rescue as requested.

(10) MULTIPLE LIFT RIGGING: WAC 296-155-717 will be followed.

(11) COLUMN ANCHORAGES Min 4 bolts per column. (Posts of 300 lbs or less 2 bolt min.)

(12) ALIGNMENT OF STRUCTURAL STEEL MEMBERS: YOUR COMPANY STEEL


ERECTORS competent person/qualified rigger will determine the alignment, plumb and level of the
structural steel members being erected to assure structural steel stability during erection process.

(13) REPAIRS OF MODIFICATIONS I.E. TORCH CUTTING: Prior to any field modifications to
steel are attempted the engineer of record will be contacted for clarification and direction to repair or
alter. Written approval will be required.

(14) DIAGONAL BRACING: Minimum 1 bolt per connection.

(15) STRUCTURAL STEEL CONNECTIONS: Minimum 2 bolts at each end.

(16) LOOSE ITEMS: Secure bolt bags/tool bags to structure using 100% secure rope and safety hook or
# 9 wire to structure

(17) FALLING OBJECT PROTECTION. Protection from falling objects other than materials being
hoisted. The controlling contractor (GENERAL CONTRACTOR) must bar other construction processes
below steel erection unless overhead protection for the employees below is provided . WAC 296-155-
714

(18) YOUR COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS EMPLOYEES WORKING UNDER LOADS. Routes
for suspended loads must be preplanned to ensure that no employee works directly below a suspended
load except when:
Engaged in the initial connection of the steel; or
Necessary for the hooking or unhooking of the load.

(19) PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: All YOUR COMPANY STEEL ERECTORS


employees shall wear at minimum, hard hats, safety glasses (when required), and retro reflective vests.
Care of PPE will be per manufactures recommendations,

(20) COVERING OF OPEN HOLES: Covers of roof and floor openings shall be capable of supporting
without failure twice the weigh of the employees, equipment and material. All covers shall be secured to
prevent accidental displacement by wind, equipment or employees
