4th Adolescent Literacy Summit Reflections #3

What are your next steps? How can MRA serve to support
these steps?
Intentionally selecting literature that is culturally relevant to empower
students to know and appreciate the diverse cultures and lives of Canadians
and Manitobans
Expand library, add picture books
I look forward to the next Summit-my fav conference. Shorten the break to
leave early due to long distances.
Buy (picture) books
Construct a course with my students to make sure that the students have
choices and they feel like they can say what they need to say.
Better class libraries
Recommend to colleagues to attend and to get these resources
I would like MRA to offer hands on ELA games and activities/ smaller break
out sessions/ carry out strategies

Comprehension assessment; digital literacy; more diagnosis measures in ELA,
more on new curric

social justice. Find ways to generate meaningful conversations with students.

We still dont reference enough the role of active academic speaking to
initiate the deeper and allow reflection though out the process of learning
through reading and writing lessons/ class time.

I have a hard time seeing this into action. Hard to use some philosophies in a
real classroom. For example, Teachers need to speak less.. Hard to apply. I

isolating and we are under represented at these types of events.
