Unit Objective
The Picture the Three Grand Divisions of Tennessee lesson is part of a unit covering
the three Grand Divisions of Tennessee and their major industries. Civic efficacy
requires understanding economics, geography, and history by studying more about
who they are as Americans, as described in the TN state social studies standard 2.0.

Lesson Objective

Content Learning Goals and Objectives.

1. Given a YouTube Link, students will watch the video and answer questions on
a handout.
2. Students will be given a link to Ducksters where they will read facts about
Tennessee. They will use this website to fill in the blanks on a second
handout.
3. Students will then use what theyve learned to make a podcast on Vocaroo

Student Participation

The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate a clear understanding of the
major industries found in each of the Three Grand Divisions of Tennessee. The
students will also become proficient with the technology provided to complete the
assignment. Students will then provide an audio podcast discussing the division
they most enjoy.

Technology Integration

Students will use the websites stated above as resources for the Three Grand Divisions of
Tennessee. The students will use the YouTube link above to watch the video about
Tennessee. They will then complete the handout to assess their knowledge gained from
the video.

For the second part of the assignment, the students will access the Ducksters link. They
will use this website to fill in the blanks for the second handout.

The third part of the assignment, the students will access Vocaroo. They will use the
headphones with the microphone to record their own podcast talking about their favorite
division.

Background and Rationale


Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of The Three Grand
Divisions of Tennessee and the major industries within each division
by comparing each division and its physical features
Demonstrate understanding of technology used to complete the
assignment.
Students will personalize their knowledge of the Grand Divisions by
placing themselves into their favorite division by creating their
personalized podcast.
This lesson is a continuation of TN social studies standard 2.0.
We will refer to the summary created here as we continue to explore
the major industries within the Three Grand Divisions of Tennessee.
We will also use our outlines for a unit on creative writing.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who
did not master the objectives and for those ready for enrichment.
However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not
part of this particular lesson.

Procedures and Timeline


Introduction

Begin by displaying the Three Grand Divisions of Tennessee and their major
industries on a large screen display, overhead, or whiteboard.
Briefly review background information about its why there was a division, and the
differences of the land features within each division which supports their specific
major industry.
The students will then use the internet access to reach the websites listed to
complete their handouts.
The assignment will end with the students creating their own podcasts.
