Tanjung Rhu is the story of a successful businessman with modern ideas and

modern ways. He has an elderly mother who is traditional in her ways. The
early is set in the present and the office of Mr. Li and his house in Singapore.

Mr. Lis father used to have a shipyard in Tanjung Rhu and the family stayed in
a hut by the beach. He felt uneasy about something he had left undone. As was
his habit, he counted the number of ships in the harbor. The binoculars
reminded him on his mother

Mr. Lis mother was traditional and conservative. She practiced ancestor
worship religiously and would not allow anyone to do the praying except for
herself. When she fell ill and was dying, she worried about the keys to the
drawer in the altar room. This was what Mr. Li had to look for but he could not
find them.
