Abstract: T he thought debate fro m the prospectiv e o f po litical science too k place betw een Neo-
Left and Liber alism at the end o f 1990s . T his debate m ainly concer ned follow ing three questio ns. T he
first o ne is a bo ut w hich should be g iven pr iority , freedom or equality; the seco nd social justice; and the
last upo n the institutional fo rm of dem ocracy . T he paper advances the debate reflected the intellectuals'
care fo r the chang ing China. Altho ugh its academic lev el is no t high , its m eaning has ex ceeded the de-
bate itself. A s lo ng as the social chang es g o on, the discusion is inev itable .
