PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Use what you have learned about the elements and princples of design,
design process and Xacto cutting to create an original and creative design
and etch your design onto a glass mirror.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
YOUR DESIGN SHOULD ...
1. Be functional

5. Incorporate at least TWO different concepts

DESIGN PROCESS PROJECT CHECKLIST | STEPS:

RESEARCH 1. Concept development, specs, subject info, theme, color options

LIST IDEAS 2. Make a brainstorming list of 15 individual ideas that support your theme

THUMBNAILS 3. Sketch one quick abbreviated image for each of idea on your list

CONCEPT SKETCHES 4. Create three concept sketches


For each concept combine atleast two individual ideas from your list

COMPREHENSIVE LAYOUT 5. Choose your strongest design and draw out your design to size

TIGHT COMPREHENSIVE LAYOUT 6. Receive critique and make changes to your design
7. Work out proposed design problems, create/re-work new solutions,
modify layouts for each direction

FINAL DESIGN 8. Create a final drawing of your design to size with a pencil
9. Fill in the positive area of your design with black ink
(Shade the part of your design you want etched onto your mirror)
10. Secure final design onto contact paper with spray adhesive
11. Mirror prep
12. Remove backing contact sheet over mirror
13. Apply masking tape on the spaces of the mirror that are not covered -
DO NOT COVER YOUR DESIGN
14. Using an X-acto knife, carefully cut out the design

ETCH FINAL DESIGN 15. Place etching cream over design and wait 15 minutes
16. Scrape excess cream back into jar
17. Rinse mirror in sink
18. Take a photo of your finished mirror to turn in for a grade
19. Upload photo and turn in image to Google Classroom
20. Wrap mirror in newspaper and take home

Choose your strongest concept. Start laying out your design piece. Draw your

that you want to show up etched on your mirror.

After critique, work out the proposed
design problems and re-create or
re-work new creative solutions. Modify
your layout for each direction.

FINAL DESIGN
1. On a new blank white sheet of paper,
Work out your final concept. create a final drawing of your design to size with a pencil
Generate high resolution output.
Submit final design. 2. Fill in the positive area of your design with black ink
(Shade the part of your design you want etched onto your mirror)

3. Secure final design onto contact paper with spray adhesive

4. Mirror prep: wipe your mirror with a paper towel and Windex

5. Remove backing on contact sheet and place the contact sheet over mirror
- place your design exactly where you want the etching to show up

6. Apply masking tape on the spaces of the mirror that are not covered by
contact paper. DO NOT COVER YOUR DESIGN

7. Using an X-acto knife, carefully cut out the design

ETCH FINAL DESIGN


1. Using a small brush, place etching cream over design and wait 15 minutes
