Hello Everyone.
By the time you read this, all Easter eggs will have been hunted, coffee, wine,
chocolate etc been resumed after the Lent discipline. On we March into the glorious
month of May. I love the exuberance and freshness of May: the myriad of bright
Spring colours. The rich tapestry of the hedgerows and banks with the dog roses and
brambles promising us another abundance of fruit in the Autumn. Just along the A47
West there are apple orchards, that will soon be a sea of pink.
Of course, a lot of May has happened in April this year, Spring is probably about
three weeks earlier than last year. Bonus! Enjoy. Gina

SORE THROAT
Sore throats are often caused by
viruses and usually settle within
one to two weeks without the need
for any medical treatment. White
spots on the tonsils do not imply a
need for antibiotics.

Paracetamol should be taken for pain. Follow the advice on

the pack.

Salt gargles may be used to ease a sore throat in adults and

children over 12. Dissolve two teaspoons of salt in half a glass
of water, gargle and spit out. Repeat several times a day.

Please do not ask for antibiotics as refusal may offend

Many people give reasons for asking for antibiotics to treat sore
throats. Im going on holiday, Im getting married or Ive
got exams are commonly cited. Viruses are immune to such
reasoning and antibiotics are no more likely to be effective on
these occasions.

When to see the doctor

If a sore throat is so severe that you cannot drink
If hoarseness persists for more than six weeks
If a child who is ill refuses to drink
If you think that you (or your child) are seriously unwell

TO ALL PARISHIONERS
Who does the Church belong to?
We have recently been successful in our bid for Heritage Lottery Grant Funding for
urgent repair works to one of our church buildings (congratulations East Walton!)
One of the questions on the HLF application form is: 'Who owns the building?' We
didn't actually have to answer this as for churches it's 'N/A - not applicable!
So who does the Church belong to? Well, that is an interesting question.
The Church (meaning a body of people who meet together regularly) belongs to those
who are part of it. The Church is a family or a fellowship. However it's not true to say
the Church belongs only to those who use it because the Church belongs to the
communities in which they are set.
In essence, your parish church belongs to you, in a very special way.
The Church of England offers services not only regular services (of all styles) every
week throughout the year but also for special occasions and those most important
moments in our lives. The Church has being here for everyone for generations and
has baptised, married and buried parishioners, being available not just to those who
regularly worship at church on a Sunday, but all parishioners. There are also
important celebrations at special times of the year that many people from our parishes
enjoy Easter, Christmas and Remembrance Sunday to name just a few.
And it's not just about church services, the Church can and does offer much more.
The Church is there for its community to offer support to everyone within the
geographical parish and the Rector or Vicar is available to everyone. The Church is
also a very special place where anyone can come to find a few moments of peace,
solitude and solace.
It's also good to remember just how much churches have contact in their communities.
Our work in schools is just one of the ways that church meets community and shows
our face to the world. We live in a time when, sadly, many people are turning away
from the church. I think it is so important that our younger generation grow up with the
knowledge that the Church is here for them and always will be at any time in their lives
should they wish to turn to it for friendship or support.
The Church has, and will continue, to provide a place for everyone - young, old and in
between and we look forward to serving you for a long time to come. After all what is
the Church here for?
Only a couple of weeks ago we celebrated Easter. I have in my mind a picture of that
man, Jesus, who hangs on a cross with arms outstretched, symbol of the love God has
for all humankind, and a constant reminder to me that the Church, and particularly
your Parish Church, is not just for 'the chosen few' but for all of you out there!
Who does the church belong to? It belongs to you because you belong.

Dogs Trust.

Gayton Knit & Natter

On Saturday April 8th the ladies of G.K & N held an Easter sale in aid of the E.A.C.H
charity, although this time the numbers in attendance were low 240 was raised. A
big thank you to those that gave their time to help on such a lovely warm and sunny
day, and to those that came and gave their
support. A further 85 was raised by the sale
of knitted Easter chicks with cream eggs,
and donations. Thank you all.

 From the Trustees of Gayton Jubilee Hall
As reported in last Month's "Voice", the Trustees and its Members held its public
Annual General Meeting on the evening of 12th April. Unfortunately, whether due to
Easter holidays or lack of enthusiasm, the turnout was poor and has repercussions for
the success of the hall's continuance.

The reports presented were from the "Knit and Natter" group, Treasurer of Trustees
and Chair of Trustees, who's report will be presented to the Parish Council AGM in
May.

The hall will benefit for a further year from the continued service of the current
Trustees, all of whom give their time to support such a significant resource for the
villages of Gayton and Gayton Thorpe. The Trustees urge and would welcome all
villagers to consider the use of this worthy and affordable facility.

The recent Easter Bingo was a great success and the monies are put towards the fund
for the upkeep of the hall, which is building slowly and to invest in the next big venture,
the Summer Fayre. The date to book in your calendar is 19 August and it will be held
on the playing field beside the Social Club, who have kindly allowed us the use of their
facilities. We will have news of stalls, activities and food events in the next "Voice"
magazine.

We require the help of a handyman for an hour per

month, to assist with small jobs that need doing in
and around the hall. If you feel that you could help,
please contact Paul (details below). The Trustees
would be grateful to hear from you.

There are to be announcements on the change of current classes using the hall and
all will be updated on our on-line calendar and Voice as soon as we have fixed events
to advise upon, so watch this space!

We have an online calendar to make it easier for you to book an event at the Village
Hall. It's really easy to check whether the date you want is available. Just go online

Gayton Parish Council News
Meeting held 10th April 2017
Neighbourhood Plan
The Councillors heard a proposal
from the residents who have joined
together to form a working group to
create a Neighbourhood Plan. The
spokesperson confirmed that a grant
could be applied for which would
mean that the Plan would not cost the
Council anything to create and
produce. The Council agreed with 8
votes for and 1 abstention to proceed
with the production of a
Neighbourhood Plan via the Working
Party, with regular updates at Parish
Council meetings, and which will not
bear any cost to the Council. The
Council was very grateful to those
residents who have volunteered to
take on the work of creating and
producing a Neighbourhood Plan.
Local Development Plan
The Council noted a plan showing the
land which has been submitted for
consideration for future development
in Gayton. It was considered whether
to invite all of the landowners to
Council meetings to discuss their
plans for development, however, it
was agreed not to do this at this time
as the development of the land in
question is likely to be a considerable
distance in the future. It was agreed to
monitor the sites put forward via the
Borough Council's website.
Community Defibrillator
The Council considered the possibility
of installing a Community Defibrillator.
Some Councillors noted that the
proximity of Gayton to the Hospital
may make this redundant. The
responsibilities surrounding
maintenance, upkeep and training etc
for the Defibrillator were also noted.
The Council voted not to install a
Defibrillator at this time with 3 votes
against, 2 for and 4 abstentions.
Parish Council Website
The Council noted the current
Website Administrators notice of
resignation. The Council would very

documents and make changes to the
content where necessary. An Annual
fee of 250 would be payable to the
Administrator. If you are interested in
providing this support to the Council,

The Council noted the Clerk's notice
of resignation. The Council will
require a new Clerk from September
2017. If anyone is interested in this
position, please contact the Parish
Clerk in the first instance. Information
on hours and pay will be available.

 Megan's Challenge 10k Fun Run/Walk & Mini Fun Run/Walk
Sunday 28 May 2017 in Gayton

Megan's Challenge 10k Fun Run/Walk will take place around Gayton following track
and road, starting and finishing at Gayton Social Club. Registration 9 to 10am.
Race start 11.00am.
Megan's Challenge Mini Fun Run is approx 1 mile for people of all ages and
abilities. The minimum age to take part on event day is 6 years old. Children under

At our April meeting we were pleased to welcome, Brenda Packman who is our County
representative to the Associated CountryWomen of the World or ACWW.
This is an organisation whose aim is to empower women worldwide and believes in creating
opportunities for women to exercise more power.
At Gayton we always have a pot on the President's table at meetings. This is called the Pennies
for Friendship pot in which any member can voluntarily contribute a 'Penny' . This is then sent via
County Federation to ACWW so that projects in communities in various parts of the world can be
helped. In 2015 Pennies for Friendship raised 194,000 in unrestricted funds, which enabled the
San Tus Centre in Mongolia to purchase greenhouses, small tools and other materials for two
female-run agricultural cooperatives Another is supporting water supply projects in Bangladesh.

When does a Frittata become a fluffy omelette? When does a fluffy omelette become
a souffl omelette? I don't know, but here is a quick nutritious meal for two.

Pre-heat the grill. Have ready a medium frying pan with a little oil or butter. Grate a
cupful of cheese, plus a bit for sprinkling.

Break four eggs into a basin and

add two tablespoons of milk.
Sea salt and black pepper.
Saut a bunch of washed, sliced
Spring Onions,(or half a small
onion) half a diced red pepper
and a few sliced mushrooms.

Now the fun begins. Whilst this

is cooking, beat until frothy, the
eggs etc and add a teaspoon of dried mixed herbs and what you will. Here are a
couple of suggestions, a few coriander seeds or a few black cumin seeds ( some
were found in Tutankhamen's tomb and
they are said to cure everything except
death!)

Turn up the heat under the frying pan,

give the eggs a final beating and then
add to the sauted veg. Add the cheese.
Pull the mixture into the centre of the
pan as it is cooking. When the bottom of
the omelette is cooked, but the top still a
bit runny, sprinkle the rest of the cheese
on the top and place under the grill for
about 4 mins until just set and turning
golden.
With a fish splice cut the omelette down
the centre, fold over and serve with a
salad or chips or coleslaw. Enjoy

What is Messy Church?
Messy Church has been running in
the Village Hall at Gayton now for
nearly 6 years. It has proved very
popular throughout that time with
children and parents alike because
it is such fun!
So, what is Messy Church, what
happens there and what can you
expect?
Well its for adults and children to
enjoy together and is:
Relaxed and informal and
not at all churchy!!
A good way of enabling
children to learn more
about, and build on the
good values for life they
learn in school based on
the stories and teachings
found in Christianity.
It's fun and its exciting

Live music
A shared meal together

during term time. Dates are always
advertised in the magazine and
through the schools.
There is no age limit to Messy
Church but it is ideally suited to
primary school age children
(younger and older siblings are

child!! We find adults enjoy Messy
Church just as much as the children!
I will always remember one Mum
looking up from the craft she was
engrossed in and saying I think Ive
found my inner child!

anytime between 3.30pm 4pm
Juice, biscuits colouring materials.
Tea & coffee are available.
We kick off at 4pm with songs and a
short story or drama followed by
craft activities then we enjoy more
lively songs before settling down for
a cooked meal together.
We aim to finish around 5.30pm.
There is no charge for Messy

LEZIATE PARISH COUNCIL
REPORT
The Parish Council met on
Wednesday 12th April 2017 for its
usual monthly meeting.
The Council was delighted to
welcome Rebekah Mercer to the
Council. Rebekah has been co-
opted onto the Council, after a
recent resignation and is looking at
ways we can communicate with
residents. She is very keen to start
a twitter feed and a Facebook page
and we look forward to her bringing
the Parish Council into the modern
age of social media!
The Parish Council was saddened to
hear that there have been
complaints about horse riders and
complaints from horse riders. After
much discussion, it was agreed to
explain that if only we could have a
bit of give and take from all sides
and co-exist with each other while
being respectful of each other's
activities and points of view, some of
these issues could be solved. So, a
plea to everyone please show
consideration to all your neighbours!!
Cllr Bramwell has been working very
hard to try and reinvigorate
HomeWatch in the parish and is
delighted that Peter Evans has
agreed to come to our next meeting
on May 10th. Peter oversees Norfolk
NeighbourWatch which replaces
HomeWatch for Norfolk. PC Emily
Carter who has the Police
responsibility for North West Norfolk
has reiterated how important
NeighbourhoodWatch is to the
community and her responsibilities
include the 'Police Connect'
messaging service. He will speak as
the first agenda item at the Annual
Parish meeting and there will be
plenty of opportunity for questions
and a chance to get involved in this
scheme, which is extremely
important to all of us who live in the
area.
Following comments at the last
meeting, the Parish Council agreed
to go ahead and look at the
possibility of restoring the War
Memorial. The War Memorial
although not dangerous has a very
severe lean and it may be possible
with the help of a grant and
contributions this could be rectified.
It will be looked at further and
reported on at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be the Annual
Parish Meeting and the Annual
Parish Council meeting on 10th May
2017 starting at 7.30 in the village
hall and all are welcome to come
and have your say and listen to
what Homewatch can do for you and
your family.

Meeting held on 21st March 2017

Our guest speaker at our March meeting was Antony Sims from Waitrose who gave
a talk on the John Lewis/Waitrose partnership. In the Partnership, permanent
employees are Partners which means they all own the business and share in its
success. We also heard that employees who had achieved 25years received 6
months' annual leave. Several members wondered why they hadn't started their
working days at Waitrose!

During our refreshment break we sampled cider which had originated from the
company's Leckford Farm Estate in Hampshire. The farm also supplies milk,
mushrooms, free-range eggs and chickens.
Competition winners for a holiday souvenir were 1st - Sylvia, 2nd - Tracey and 3rd -
Betty A.

company in Grimston called W.J.Rasberry and a
company call R & U. D. Palmer in Gt. Massingham

I would to make the Parish Council aware that conversion of the Rampant Horse is
due to start soon. As a result of this the car park is to be used as the contractors site

West Norfolk Community Sports has agreed that there will not be a West Norfolk
Village Games day in 2017 due to the reducing numbers of teams entering and the
need to evolve the event to freshen it up. It has been discussed and agreed that we
want to continue offering a Village Games competition as it is a valuable way of
bringing rural communities together and providing fun and an active competition to
those who might not normally take part in a team sport. The proposed new format is
to have stand alone activities run on specific dates throughout the year, either at
Alive Lynnsport or at different venues within West Norfolk.

This event will be known as the 'Rural Community Games'.

They will be fun events so you don't need to be an expert and events involve adults
and children. It is all FREE to enter. Teams are a maximum of 3 adults and 3
children (usually aged 8 or above). To keep the competition element, there will be a
prize at each event but also an overall winning prize for the village team that wins
overall.

The events that will take place in 2017 are:

Archery (14 May, 10am-2pm

Foot Golf (tbc in June)
Tennis (19 July, 6-9pm)
Wheelchair Basketball (8 September, 6-9pm)
Table Tennis (13 Oct, 6-9pm)
Badminton (13 Oct, 6-9pm)

The first event, archery, will take place on Sunday 14 May from 10am-2pm
and we need 3 adults and 3 children to make up the GLEAM Team.

of Gayton/Gayton Thorpe, Leziate, East Winch, Ashwicken or Middleton),

East Walton Restoration
Congratulations everyone in East Walton. We are delighted to inform you that we
have been awarded a huge Heritage Lottery Fund grant to enable urgent work to be
undertaken to preserve our Church for generations to come.

To launch this new project there will be a walk-in event at

St Mary's, East Walton on Saturday 20th May between 3pm and

6pm

Everybody is welcome to come along. There will be people explaining and displays
showing the work to be done plus the inevitable tea and cake.

There are a number of events (some fundraising - some just 'fun') in the planning.
Come along and find out what's going on in your village!

Perhaps you could even lend a hand or support some of them.

How we poisoned the congregation

.
The benefice service at the beginning of April was very special, as the Bishop was
coming. So we pulled out the stops and made millions of biscuits for
refreshments afterwards. But the drinks tasted awful, even though
most people, doubtless used to the poor flavour of Fairtrade coffee,
finished their cups. Only after everyone had been served, did someone
realise that we had been boiling a kettle flex inside the urn! Moral:
always check what's in an urn before you switch it on.

Donation to WaterAid.
Probably because they hadn't drunk their
coffee at that stage, the congregation donated
91.60 to WaterAid - a wonderful amount!

And the Easter Service..

We had a lovely, joyful service. Afterwards, things went a bit mad, what with the
Easter egg hunt (thank goodness it wasn't raining!), sherry instead of coffee and
some kids getting a ride on the bier. Child to Reader, "You dance like an old person.

Church open on Saturdays. During British Summer Time, from 10-4.

Christian Aid Week

This money -raising week starts on Sunday, 14th May. If you get an envelope with
your magazine and wish to contribute, please take your envelope to the post office,
drop it in at the church or give it to Wendy Smith or Nell Steele.

The Parish Council has to act as a body, which means that individual councillors
cannot make promises which haven't been agreed, and a vote needs to be taken
about any action that has been considered.

It is difficult to hold a long discussion about anything councillors did not expect,
and unless an item is on the agenda, other members of the public may not be
aware that a concern has been raised.

So, unless a matter is particularly urgent, please inform a councillor or the clerk at
least 10 days before a meeting
