LYNCHBURG COLLEGE LESSON PLAN

REQUIREMENTS

Subject/topic: Science Review of Physical and Chemical /Change / Unit Test

Grade/class: 3rd Miss. Snyder/ Miss. Jones
Time/period: 1:00 -2:20
Lesson date: Wednesday, February 8th, 9th, 10th, 2017

SOL: 3.3 The student will investigate and understand that objects are made of materials that
can be described by their physical properties. Key concepts include
a) objects are made of one or more materials;
b) physical properties remain the same as the material is changed in visible size; and
c) visible physical changes are identified.

Content outline:
The purpose of this lesson is for students to have the opportunity to review and refresh
their memory based on the material that they have learned since the beginning of the unit that
Miss. Snyder started with all three science classes.

Rationale:
This is important for the students to know how to pick the best answer choices and know
how to eliminate the wrong answer choices. (this will be a skill that will be extremely useful
when taking the SOL)

Objective(s) of the lesson:

1. The student will be able to recognize at least 5 to 7 vocabulary words that were
taught during the unit.
2. The student will be able to answer 10 out of 15 questions correctly when using the
clickers to take the test.
3. The student will be able to score an 80 -100% on the unit test. This will show they
understand the unit and objectives taught.

Lesson Opening:
1. To start the lesson, I will have each student share one thing that he or she thought
was cool to learn and sparked their interest.
2. Once students have shared, I will tell students that they will be playing a review
game that will help them for their unit test later in the day.
Connection:
This unit may connect to the next unit that focuses on simple machines. Student may see
vocabulary that they learned in the previous lesson in the upcoming unit that will start on
Monday, February 12th.

Instructional Strategies/Processes:
1. To review for the test, student will be answer a series of 15 multiple choice
questions.
2. Each student will be given a clicker. I will read the question that is projected on
the board and students will individually answer the question.
3. After each question is answered, we will discuss the answer choice and why that
answer was the best.
4. I will provide students with examples during the review session if they are having
a hard time understanding
5. After students have reviews for the test, they will be given about 20 minutes to
take their unit test.

Products:
1. Students will be answering review questions and I will be able to see the data
from the questions that were answered.
2. Students will be handing in their unit test for SOL 3.3.

Assessment:
1. Students will be assessed on the entire unit that Miss. Snyder started and the two
other lessons that I taught to all three rotations of science classes.

Closure:
To close this unit, I will ask students if they have anything they wanted to go over before
taking the test. I want to ensure that all questions are answered before the student is given the
test. If students finish their test early and there is still time, students will be allowed to tell me
their favorite part of the entire unit.

Homework: N/A

Differentiation:
I will walk around the classroom and assists students if they are having trouble. If
students need to write the answer they chose on a piece of paper then they will be allowed to do
so. For those that have read alouds, their test will be read aloud to them.

Materials/Equipment:
1. Clickers for the students to answer the review questions
2. The unit test
3. Scratch paper and pencil
