Group Lesson Plan

Solve a System of Equations by Graphing

Name (CIS 223 Asma Shedewa)

Grade(s) 9th Grade

Subject(s) Mathematics

Length of Lesson 20 minutes long

Lesson In this lesson plan, students will be learning how to create equations
Overview/Rational and inequalities. Students will be using graphing tools and Windows
e Movie Maker to their understanding of how to solve equations. The
class will be using Multimedia technologies for this part of the
curriculum, per chapter 9 "Single-Mode learning means that students
receive information in one from, often via teacher talking. Multimodal
learning means teachers combine spoken words with visuals, written
text with audio, or simulations with models." (p214) This lesson plan
was created based on Universal design for learning (UDL)

Reasoning with equations and Inequalities
Represent and solve equations and inequalities graphically
Understand that the graph of an equation in two variables is the
set of all its solutions plotted in the coordinate plane, often
forming a curve (which could be a line).
Explain why the x-coordinates of the points where the graphs of
the equations y = f(x) and y = g(x) intersect are the solutions of
the equation f(x) = g(x); find the solutions approximately, e.g.,
using technology to graph the functions, make tables of values,
or find successive approximations. Include cases where f(x)
and/or g(x) are linear, polynomial, rational, absolute value,
exponential, and logarithmic functions.
Graph the solutions to a linear inequality in two variables as a
halfplane (excluding the boundary in the case of a strict
inequality), and graph the solution set to a system of linear
inequalities in two variables as the intersection of the

Learning Students will focus on pairs of linear equations in two variables

Objectives to solve systems of linear equations.
Students will learn about graphing and then apply what they
learned .
Students will learn how to work in groups by making a video
tutorial and presenting it in class.
Students will also do a survey at the end of their presentation to
see how well they did/worked together.
Students will write about whether teaching their classmates and
working in a group helped them focus and learn more or
whether working alone and just taking notes is best for the and
why.
Students will learn how to use Windows Movie Maker and how
to create a movie.
Universal design for learning (UDL) is the application of
universal design principles from architecture and public access
to educational settings.
Multiple means of representation, to give learners various
ways of acquiring information and knowledge.

Technology Uses Students will be using the computers for:

Making a tutorial video.

Word document/google doc.
Calculators.
Promethean board.
Printer(survey/worksheets).
Computers/Internet
Microsoft Word
Printer

Materials Pencil, pen, worksheets, book

Procedure Teacher will introduce the lesson to the students.

Teacher will put students in groups of 3-5.
Teacher will allow the students to choose who will be
responsible for each role in the group as long as every member
is doing something.
Teacher will allow the students to decide how they want to do
the assignment.
Teacher will pass out laptops to the students.
Teacher will ask the students if they are familiar with video
making and Microsoft word, if not, the teacher will guide the
students through the Promethean board.
Students will work on the lesson with their groups.
Students will type how they learn best.

How well they were able to teach their assignment.

How much effort was put into the assignment.
Whether or not the whole group worked on the assignment or
not.
How well the video was (length, animation, sound)
The worksheet for their classmates.
The word document that they turned in.
