Observation 10
I. Observation 10:
Child Study 3

II. Grade:
Kindergarten

III. Students:
9 girls, 9 boys

IV. Setting:
Lamonte Annex, Bound Brook NJ
Multi-Age (5-6 years old) classroom, 18 students, 1 head teacher.

V. Pre Observation
I conducted this observation to analyze one child in an early childhood education
classroom. I also planned to identify any issues and any strengths that the child
had. I selected a child from a kindergarten class at the Lamonte Annex, an
elementary school in Bound Brook, NJ. I set aside a three-hour block to use to
observe and form a running record. To better prepare myself for this observation, I
conducted some research about developmentally appropriate classroom behavior.

VI. Data:
Observations were conducted on April 19, 2017.
The child walks in, at the same time as all the other students
He spends the breakfast time socializing and being friendly with the other
students
He starts on his after-breakfast worksheet right away and completes it with
little disruption
He asks to use the restroom. The teacher lets him go
He returns after 3 minutes
He goes to the carpet for carpet time, and participates in the morning
activities
He raises his hand to answer a question
When the teacher is reading a story, he attentively listens
When they go back to their desks to do their busy work and daily project,
he sits quietly and works, only disrupting another student when he needed
the colored pencil she was using

VII. Analysis:
The student in question is very outgoing and polite at this point. He is cooperative
and participant. He listens to instruction and follows the rules. He isnt always
trying to escape from the classroom to run to the nurse or the bathroom. He is
quick in the bathroom. He seems like a much happier kid overall.

VIII. Recommendations:
I would recommend keeping up the good work. This student is improving and
maturing rapidly.

IX. Post Observation:

This observation went well. The student did behave in a developmentally
appropriate way according to my research. He was cooperative and showed vast
improvement from the last child study and especially from the first one.
