7. A three phase, 50 Hz, 6 pole squirrel cage induction motor runs at 960 rpm on full load.

The stand still rotor resistance and reactance per phase are 0.01 ohm and 0.05 ohm

respectively. Express the maximum torque developed in terms of full load toque. Find the

slip at which the maximum torque occurs. (Ans: T max = 2.6Tf , 20%)

8. A three phase, 50 Hz, 4 pole slip ring induction motor runs at 1455 rpm on full load. The

rotor resistance per phase on stand still is 0.2 ohm. It is required to reduce the speed by

10% by inserting the series resistance in the rotor circuit. Determine the rotor resistance

9. An 8 pole, 50 Hz slip ring induction motor runs at a slip of 2.67% on full load. The rotor

resistance per phase of the winding is 0.2 ohm. What external resistance per phase must

be added in the rotor circuit so that the motor now runs ate a slip of 17.33% such that the

torque remains same in both the cases. (Ans: 1.1 ohm)

10. 14. An 8 pole 50 Hz, three phase induction motor runs at a speed of 720 rpm when

delivering full load torque. Its stand still rotor resistance and reactance are 0.1 ohm and

0.6 ohm per phase respectively. An additional resistance of 0.5 ohm per phase is inserted

in the rotor circuit to control the speed. Calculate the speed at which the motor runs now

with full load torque remaining the same. (Ans: 570 rpm)

11. The power input to a 3 phase induction motor is 60 KW. The stator loses total 1 KW. Find

the total mechanical power developed and the rotor copper losses per phase if the motor

is running with the slip of 3%. ( Ans: P=57.23 KW, loses 0.59 KW)

12. A 25 h.p., 6 pole, 50 hz, 3 phase slip ring induction motor runs at 960 revolution per

minute on full load with a rotor current per phase of 35 A. Allowing 250 W for the rotor

copper loss in the short circuit gear, and 1000 W for mechanical losses, find the resistance

per phase of the three phase rotor winding. ( Ans: .15476 ohm)

13. The stator loss of a 3 phase induction motor is 2 KW. When the power input is 90 KW,

What will be the rotor mechanical power developed and the rotor copper loss if the motor

is running at a slip of 4%. (Ans: P= 84.48 KW, loss 3.52 KW)

14. The rotor resistance and standstill reactance per phase of a 3 phase induction motor are

0.05 ohm and 0.2 ohm respectively. What should be the value of external resistance per

phase to be inserted in the rotor circuit to give maximum torque at starting? ( Ans: 0.05)

15. A 6 pole, 50 Hz, 3 phase induction motor develops a maximum torque of 30 Nm at 960

r.p.m. Determine the torque exerted by the motor at 5% slip. The rotor resistance per

phase is 0.6 ohm. ( Ans: 29.97 Nm)

16. A 3 phase, 50 Hz, 6 pole induction motor runs at 940 r.p.m. and delivers 7 KW output.

What starting torque will the motor develop when switched directly on the supply, if

maximum torque developed at 800 r.p.m. ? The friction and windage losses total 840 W.

17. The rotor resistance and reactance of a 4 pole, 50 Hz, 3 phase slip

ring induction motor are 0.4 ohm and 4 ohm per phase respectively.

Calculate the speed at maximum torque and the ratio of maximum

torque to starting torque. ( Ans: 1350 rpm, 5.05)

18. In the problem number 18, what value should the resistance per

phase have so that the starting torque is half of maximum torque?

( Ans: r= 0.807 ohm)

19. A small 3 phase induction motor has the short circuit current equal

to 5 times the full load current. Determine the starting current and

starting torque if the resistance starter is used to reduce the impressed

voltage to 60% of normal voltage. The full load slip id 0.05.

( Ans: I= 3Ifl, T=0.4f Tfl)

20. A cage induction motor when started by means of star delta starter

takes 180% of full load line current and develops 35% of full load

torque at starting. Calculate the starting torque and current in full load

values, if an auto transformer with 75% tapping were employed.

21. A cage induction motor has a full load slip of 5%. The motor starting

current at rated voltage is 5.5 times the full load current. Find the

tapping on the auto transformer starter which should give full load

torque at start. Also find the line current.
