and Others?

Business of Fashion, 18 Mar. 2013, www.businessoffashion.com/articles/right-brain-left-

brain/the-fashion-industry-still-has-an-image-problem.

This website refers to the stigma in the fashion world that the only acceptable standard

size for beauty is tall and skinny. In this website, there are many connections between the

portrayal of the fashion industry and the perspective of body image. This is a great reference for

realizing the pressure and influence that the aspects of the fashion industry have on an

individuals self-image.

Fashion, Fashion Industry.

This journal has an excerpt on how important and urgent it is that people start to realize

the negative factors that the fashion industry have on how people portray themselves. It explains

that if something is not done then self-esteem and self-confidence will virtually become ruined

due to the negative influence of the fashion world. There are many eye-opening facts on how the

population needs to reevaluate the stigma of body image.

Dicke, Michael J. The Perceived Effect of Fashion Industry Advertising on Eating Disorders.

2000, p. 63. WorldCat[OCLC], Fashion.

This journal explains the relation between the fashion industry and eating disorders. It

explains that because of the distorted image that the fashion world portrays, people are going

through harsh, and even life-threatening, disorders. Eating disorders are not solely due to the

fashion industry; however, the use of only a skinny image can contribute. There needs to be

more attention on the eating disorders that arise from the fashion industry.

Explore Fashion-Related Careers. Clothing and Textiles Research Journal, vol. 23, no.

4, 2005, pp.375-384. Fashion, Fashion Industry.

This journal reveals the various fashion careers that are beneficial to students. This is

important because it shows that people can use their talents, skills, and voices to aid in the

fashion industry. This is important to my research due to my interest in the field, and to the fact

that students can go into this field and put a stop to the negative influence of body image it

portrays.

This website has a very interesting and captivating article on a photographer who is attempting to

break societal and fashion industry norms by photographing models of all shapes, sizes, and

capture the true beauty of every woman and prove that all women are beautiful, whether they are

skinny or not.

This is a TedTalk video done by the model and body activist, Ashley Graham. She is

considered a plus-sized model in the fashion industry but expresses that she should not be

considered plus-sized just because she does not look like the typical fashion industry model.

She is a great reference for my research because she is showing how easy it is to stand up and

start making a change to the image of the fashion industry and the models in it.
