Part2:
1. I plan to propose to Indiana Public Schools a program that will
implement community building within the classrooms specifically
aiming at uniting the students together and breaking down the barriers
of disability. I am very interested in this topic as I have created my own
non-profit focused on breaking down the barriers of disabilities through
connecting disabled and abled individuals together. I researched this
topic of disability programs in high schools that focused on
empowering all students. Through my research I found a program
called, Champions Together. This is a program in Indiana High Schools
that unites physically disabled students with their peers and
participate in different athletic activities together. I took this idea and
included intellectually disabled individuals at the event. This was an
inspiring experience as I saw the high school students, who were
volunteers, engage with the disabled individuals. I feel it would be
extremely beneficial to create a program that would implement
community building between both the disabled and abled individuals.
2. My intended audience is the Indiana Department of Education and the
Indiana Public School Boards. Through my research I intend to propose
to these stakeholders a new way of integrating community building in
their schools to enhance their school atmosphere. These key
stakeholders will be interested as it could provide unity among the
students at school. Plus, it will empower all of their students to see
everyone has something to offer.
3. I imagine my essay starting with reviewing the gaps in the Indiana
High School Curriculum particularly focusing on the integration of
special education. Once I establish this problem I plan to introduce the
solution I have created to fill in the gaps in the Indiana High School
Curriculum. I envision a program that is focused on the community
building between disabled and abled high school students. The claims I
plan to make in the paper are the benefits this program will have for
the public high schools. Lastly, I will present the counterarguments of
this program such as cost, training, and assessment points.
4. I have found a variety of sources. I have sources on how to create
curriculum for public schools, which will be extremely helpful when
developing a program, I see fit. Other sources I have found are on the
current curriculum in the Indiana Public Schools specifically focused on
special education. Another resource is on the history of special
education and legislation passed for disabled individuals. I need to find
statistics and sources proving that this program would be beneficial, so
it can back the counterarguments. The audience will be expecting
evidence that is statistic based and shows that this program will
enhance the overall school environment. My argument will be stronger
with the more specific I can get on my program and the gaps that are
currently in the curriculum for Indiana Public High Schools. Therefore, I
will make sure to cite particular things in the curriculum that create the
gap and will have researched programs that provide community
building for disabled individuals. This will show success rates from
them and the benefits that would apply to the school environment. I
anticipate that the school board would be hesitant at first because it
costs more and all of the work to implement a program in public high
schools.
5. I am nervous to go through curriculum and decide where the gap is, in
the curriculum. Especially since I havent studied education and do not
know what should be in curriculum. Otherwise I am excited to embark
on this adventure.
