Multimodal learning preference. (ARK)

These VARK scores indicate a multi-modal learning preference for aural, reading,
and kinesthetic styles. Aural being the preferred style makes sense, I learn a lot
from examples and direct feedback, this helps me because its a quick and direct
way of establishing what is correct and incorrect. This helps me to incorporate
changes that improve performance. One caveat is that it may take some time or
multiple repetitions to assimilate information. Aural is followed by reading and
kinesthetic. I like to read directions and examples to better grasp the task or
concept at hand. On fieldwork actually doing a task or practicing will help me
translate information gathered through reading and hearing into practice.

On another learning styles assessment my scores indicated a preference for the


sensing and sequencing learning styles over their alternatives (intuitive and
global). Sensing indicates a preference for learning through facts rather than
learning through discovery and relationships. As a sensor I prefer practical and
well-established methods rather than seeking innovative or abstract approaches.
On fieldwork I will seek to learn the established methods rather than thinking
abstractly or innovatively about a particular clients situation. As a sequential
learner I prefer to learn things step-by-step, and proceed to solutions in a step-
by-step fashion. On fieldwork it will be helpful for me to learn using this method
of steps rather than just a global explanation.

The results of a teaching style survey indicate an affinity for expertise, formal
authority, and personal modeling teaching styles. I believe this is related to the
sensing aspect of learning. In accordance with that seeking of facts I prefer a
method of teaching in which the instruction proceeds from the instructors
expertise and experience (this includes the personal model approach in which
the instructor relates details from their own practice). As someone who prefers
step-by-step instruction I like the formal authority style because it tends towards
set deadlines, instructions, and expectations. On fieldwork I will likely learn best
from a FE who relays information in the form of facts and personal experiences,
as well as laying out expectations and sticking with them.
