Final Reflection

Throughout the semester in UWRT, I have completed various assignments and many

papers. Some papers being easy and others being difficult has tested my ability to write. Not

only did it test my writing my ability, but it has improved my writing ability. Disregarding my

writing ability, I have also learned new things from performing my inquiry paper, things about

social classes and power.

When the semester first started I was less confident in writing my papers. Personally felt

I made many mistakes especially grammar mistakes. After my professor explained how most

students make only a few errors in their paper, just repeated many times throughout the paper. I

realized I was one of those students, that repeated my few mistakes. Taking notice, I made the

changes during proof reading my papers. Making my papers even better, this was also a result of

putting more time into my papers. When I put more times into my paper I made significant

improvements.

During the inquiry paper, I learned about discourse communities, and at the start of the

semester I had no idea what a discourse community was. Now I can explain how these

communities share a specific language and work on a common goal together. When researching

my inquiry paper, I completed research on social power within communities. This has taught me

many things to consider in social power. For example, that a common interest of a wealthy
leader, is to become a leader to show off their wealth. This is great because I have learned more

than just writing abilities in my writing class.

Going into the class, something I disliked was the website at the end and how it is so

important. This is very disappointing because this is a writing class, not a website building class.

I do understand how it shows everything you did in the class, but the writing should be more

important. I did enjoy the extra time on our Inquiry project provided by the professor, this was

very helpful in managing my time. Another I did like about my UWRT class was the small class,

this allowed the students to personally get to know each other. Helping to understand each

others own papers.

Overall I enjoyed UWRT, mostly because of the Inquiry paper, and how we researched a

community. I was a able to take what I learned and apply it to communities and cultures.

Allowing me to have a nice understanding of human social class. I also am glad that my writing

ability has improved. Now I can apply this to my upperclassman research in engineering.
