To Whom it May Concern:

My name is Amy Stringer and I am a Special Education Teacher at Reagan Elementary School
with the Leander Independent School District in Cedar Park, Tx. I have been Ashlyn Cummings
cooperative teacher for her student teaching assignment during the Spring 2017 semester. I am
writing today in strong support of Ashlyn as a teacher in your school district. Ashlyn Cummings
has shown great maturity, flexibility and strong content knowledge while student teaching in a
special education setting. She has taught a variety of instructional strategies through modeling,
guided, and independent practice, including explicit reading instruction with a focus on
decoding, fluency and comprehension, as well as guided reading lessons with 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grade students. Ashlyn exemplifies a dedicated educator and has quickly developed meaningful
relationships with students. She is eager to learn and try new strategies and lessons in the
classroom and is always open to feedback to enhance her learning.

As a student teacher, Ashlyn has led students to make gains in their reading ability and
strengthen their comprehension. She has instilled confidence in students when teaching math,
providing accommodations and resources for students to be independently successful in the
classroom. Ashlyn has taught in both the small group special education setting as a Resource
teacher, and in the general education setting as an Inclusion teacher. She has managed
teaching in both settings with ease and has gained the trust and respect of the school faculty
and staff. Her strong knowledge of the curriculum and TEKS has made a great impact while
teaching in both settings and has enabled her to jump right in and instruct in a variety of
classrooms.

One of Ashlyns greatest qualities is her ability to reach children on their level, while maintaining
high expectations. She has been able to connect with and motivate students who are struggling
to keep up with the curriculum. Ashlyn has also effectively taught students with behavioral
issues and has treated them with compassion and consistency. Her knowledge of special
education, including modifying work and providing a variety of accommodations, has proven her
to be an excellent candidate for a special education teaching position. Ashlyn would be a
successful teacher in any setting, but her passion for special education is exemplary. I highly
recommend Ashlyn Cummings as a teacher in your school district.

Sincerely,

Amy Stringer
